The College Station, TX counsel rejected an ordinance to restrict the parking of RVs in driveways. RVers packed the meeting and 18 were allowed to present their case with applause from the crowd after each speech.

The counsel also instructed the city staff to not pursue the issue any farther.

Sounds like one or more of the city staff had a grudge against a neighbor with an RV.
I'm glad to hear the Council used common sense and good judgement.

We had a place just south of St Augustine Fla. We had it for years and parked our RV's in the back yard behind a fence. They passed a law saying no one could park RV's at their home. I went to court and won. I was grandfathered in so was able to park there as long as we owned the place. Being the RVer I am.. I moved the RV's to the front yard.

While I think such ordinances are wrong, I can see why they exist in some places. Where I live, it's legal to park an RV anywhere on your property (or on the street generally) and actually live in it for extended periods. Not every neighbor wants to see that.

That is awesome! Glad to see people take a stand. I know I would fight the same way, I have my TH in the back behind a gate and out of the way. Hope we never have to go thru this kind of thing where I live. But I will fight if I have to for my right!

It's like, which comes first, the chicken or the egg. A similar example is airports. A new airport is built then the surrounding area develops, including family homes. Soon the home owners start complaining about the noise from the airplanes.

Good to know RV owners were there and made their feelings known. It's even better to know that their voices didn't fall on deaf ears.

It turned out that the people behind the proposal were just a couple of folks from local HOA's/Neighborhood Associations. NONE of the items listed in the proposal were for safety reasons, they were purely for not offending their delicate eyes.

I suspect that nobody in attendance would have had a problem with safety or public health issues, i.e. living in the camper in non-emergency situations, blocking public access (streets or sidewalks), decrepit/broke-down units, trash all around, etc. However, in THIS particular locality, camper owners take great pride in their units and keep things neat and tidy.

It also turns out that not one of the offended parties bothered to show up at the council meeting.
