HI , tnx. mike, i was ref. to mooring products post on the 881 .
I just wanted to make sure he checked the weights of the 881. When i was looking at them for my purchase, they were hevier than i thought . 3600 wet seemed light .

Bob

I spoke with Lance before I purchased the camper. The sticker on the rear indicated 3654lbs. I was told that was loaded with water and propane.(Is this correct) I never run with water or black and grey water.

My trucks rear suspension/sway bars is off a 350 and my brakes are upgraded. Im happy with how it handles but will be upgrading to a heavier load tire.

I think my sticker says 2800 # , when i went to a few scales at was in the 3300# range , with 10 gals. water , 6 in the WH , 4 in the tank. I would take it to a certified scale to really know where you stand.

This was taken from an rv post :

What is your dry and wet weights with the 881?

The dry weight of my Max 881 taken from the factory Truck Camper Loading sheet is 3836 lbs. It includes the following optional equipment: 8'7" awning rollout 47 lbs
Air Conditioner 100 lbs
Generator LPG 110 lbs
Rear door awning 6'6" crankout 45 lbs

I see from the pictures of the seller's truck that it is a SRW. I would really hesitate to put it on anything but a dually. My gross weight when fully loaded is just slightly under the GVWR of my 06 Ford short bed dually. On a SRW truck the camper would surely overload it.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

We did consider the Dodge, but as Mooring said the 6' bed on the older models won't cut it and the price of the '10 and newer put it out of my price range. And I have to admit that for me personally, I like the the Fords better. I keep my rigs for a long while, as you can tell, so I want to make sure I'm going to be happy with what I eventually get. That is what is putting me off of the '00 dually that I can get locally. It's already 12 years old.....

I'll keep looking for that elusive SB dually CC for a few more months before I make up my mind. If I have to upgrade the suspension on a 350 SRW to make me feel more comfortable, I can. I'll cross that bridge when and if I come up on it.

It's to bad dealers won't let you test drive a truck with your camper on.....

We have a Dodge CTD SRW 3500 4 x 4. We are looking at the Adventurer 910FBS and it is about 3100 lbs dry. According to all the smart people here, when you add everything into it, it will be too heavy so SAFELY and comfortably haul. It sounds like a dually is in our future. Good luck in your decision. We've researched and recounted the wts and numbers until our eyes are bleeding. I'll be glad once it's over, just to enjoy the camping part. This part alone is quite a ride and quite bumpy.

If you can find someone to let you try them, you might want to look at 19.5" rims. I've got my AF811 on a 2500 and it handles great! The 19.5's are night and day difference. Just a thought.

Well that definitely would have been the cheaper way to go, but we bit the bullet and got the '00 7.3 F350 CC DWR. Chewed them down in price a bit so feel a bit better about that and I'm keeping the 250 so we'll have a decent snow runner to pull the sleds up to the mountain and go play.

Got the plug installed in the bed today and will switch the Ranchos from the 250 tomorrow. Have to wait and get the months bills all paid before I can get the swing out brackets. I'm not sure if I'm going to put the swaybar on the 350 but probably will put the airbags on to help with leveling. You guys think I'll need the swaybar in the 350?

To my knowledge, Ford did not make any short bed dually pickups in model years '04 or earlier.

Ford did make a very very limited number of short bed duallys from around '05-'07.

Ford has not offered a short bed dually in '09-present, that I am aware of.

Dodge did not make a short bed dually until the Mega Cab trucks came out, some time in the mid-2000's. The Mega Cab is the only dually Dodge offers with the short bed.

GM made a few short bed duallys in the mid-90's. I don't know if they have made them since then or not.

Is there some reason why you must have a short bed dually??

Ford did make shortbed duallys before 04 but don't know the years they were manufactured.

We have a Artic Fox 811 shortbed camper, and felt that we needed/wanted the shortbed dually to haul it more comfortably.

Yep and my bad, Dodge mega cabs do have the 8 1/2' bed, I drove one the day we bought the Ford, and maybe would have even bought it if I could have afforded it. I do like the cummins. But I got a good price on the 2000 Ford and my mechanic said it was well worth it so that's the way I had to go.
Please tell me what years you think they were made?

I know for a fact Ford did not make any duallys with factory pickup beds at all before 1980, they were cab/chassis trucks only, and did not make any short bed dually pickups at all from 1980 to 1997.

No information I have suggests that they made any short bed dually pickups from '99-'04 and I have not seen any either. They did make some in very limited numbers from '05-'07, that I am aware of. Finding one is like finding teeth on a hen though.

Dodge Mega Cabs do not have an 8-1/2' bed. They have a 6'3" bed. That is the only bed size Dodge offers with the Mega Cab as a factory pickup. The only long bed Mega Cabs in existence were specially modified (stretched) by custom truck upfitters, which is a very expensive job to have done, aside from any that were home built.

2006 & up Dodge Megacab Dually with a 6'4" bed sounds to me like what you are looking for. It will fit/haul your camper with no problems unless you are set on the Ford. Not sure where you & Mooring got your bed length info but that bed is Dodge's standard short bed length for those years.
