At this point I would remove the connectors and wipe as much of that stuff off as possible, then use a wire brush on the battery terminals and also the connectors that go on the terminals.

When you measure battery voltage it can be deceiving. The voltage may look OK under light loads but as the current increases so will the voltage drop across that oily stuff.

We've had issues with the protectant spray too. If the connection is not perfect &/or some of the stuff leaks down around the posts or terminals it can indeed affect current transfer.

My Dad, an time old farmer, puts a dab of grease out of the grease gun on connects and he too has had issues with loss of conductivity but insists on doing it anyway!

I found that baking soda works really well, just don't get any in the bat. cells. Take the connector off post wash them and the top of bat. off with garden hose. Put a good coat of baking soda on the post and connector. Let it stand for about 5min. Then rinse off let dry and reassemble. By using baking soda to dissolve acid on connections it will get down inside the cable that goes in the connector. I also put a coating on the post and connector after it on bat..I have found that those felt pad's that you can buy to go under the connector are a waste of money but that is just my opinion. I have been told that excessive acid build up is a sign of weak battery's.

After cleaning posts and cables, or during a new battery istall on ANY vehicle, I use Vaseline with great success! A small film applied with a Q tip does the trick.I apply to all the parts that connect. Have never had any corrosion develope. Old trick that my Dad showed me years ago. Thanks POP!

I read some great posts here on keeping the RV's batteries in great shape. I would like to add, from a safety perspective, that you should wear protective goggles, rubber gloves and a mask designed for chemicals whenever you are working around lead-acid batteries. Batteries can and do explode sometimes and you don't want to have a bad day because your face was not protected.

" Take the connector off post wash them and the top of bat. off with garden hose."

I believe this is very bad advice and will shorten the life of your batteries. You should never use anything but distilled water to "top off" your batteries with.

I didn't get the impression he was topping off the water in the batteries with a garden hose. Instead, he was just rinsing off the top of the battery with a garden hose.

I do IT support. First thing I check is "is it plugged in?". Then work my way up through the obvious/easy stuff. I finally figured out that if it works for IT support, it works for any kind of trouble shooting.

Harbor Freight has battery terminal cleaner-it is a male & female wire brush for about three bucks-remove cable use terminal brush in & out add some dielectric grease -Should be good till next year-ADD only distilled water to batteries--Rich
