As I recall CW is a for-profit organization and the USPO is a sort of Government entity. CW is making a little money and the USPO is broke and again begging for tax dollars. We go crazy over a $3.00 shipping charge and say nothing about our ridicules taxes. Who is on first?

The USPS has not directly received taxpayer-dollars since the early 1980s with the minor exception of subsidies for costs associated with the disabled and overseas voters. Revenue in the 2000s has been dropping sharply due to declining mail volume, prompting the postal service to look to other sources of revenue while cutting costs to reduce its budget deficit. They get there money from the marketplace, just like any other business. Their problem is the marketplace has changed and they have not kept up and not being competitive means losses. They are trying to deal with their financial problems by reducing service/costs and I wish them well but ..... I have my doubts.

Ain't America Great. The seller has the ability to charge what they want for a product, what they want for shipping and handling, and the consumer has the right to refuse the purchase if not happy with either. Everyone is happy

It seems that no one considers that on top of the actual cost that the shipper (UPS etc) charges, the box wasn't free, the bubble wrap wasn't free, the tape to seal the box wasn't free, the person who put it in the box wasn't working for free.

If you ship it with the flat rate post office box it isn't insured, there is no signature to prove it got there and quite a few people have no problem claiming that the mail lost it (when they didn't) and demand a refund or replacement.

Unlike the mail, if you live in a rural area and there is no FedEx or UPS depot nearby the shipper pays a surcharge to get it there. I can ship a 1lb box to L.A. for $5.63 through UPS but the same box to central Alabama will cost me $11.54.

Yes Amazon can be cheaper as well as other Internet sellers. Brick and mortar stores are at a disadvantage because of the additional overhead. Where would we be if all the brick and mortar stores closed and you had to buy everything on line?

I honestly don't think some people have any idea the cost of doing business, which is evidenced in the OP of this thread as he is saying he can get a box shipped for less than $6 at the Post Office. The actual shipping charge is certainly NOT the only cost associated with shipping that package.

It sucks when it is a smaller item, but I have gotten some great shipping deals on large items on CW, so it all basically nets out the same.

It's a free country. Buy it from somewhere else rather than complain.

"It's a free country. Buy it from somewhere else rather than complain"

First off to complain is my right!

CW has lost all of my business with their rude employees. I went to CW for the last time, when I was told that I could not get the outside grill mount in any other length than what they had in the store. I told the employee that I had seen them on the web and not necessarily on CW's site. He then told me that he had been in the RV business for 20+ years and that he had never seen a mount rail other than the 16.5" length and I would have to buy 2 of them to get the length I wanted. This type of attitude is exactly why I dont shop there anymore and this wasnt my first problem like this with CW.

Just because you work at CW doesnt make you an expert, it means that you just got lucky in the hiring process.

I have since found the website again where I first saw the item I was looking for and it was 30" long. WOW go figure!

I will wait, look, or travel to the next town for a Mom and Pop shop before giving another dime to CW.

The cost of shipping (mail UPS FED EX) is just 1 small part of shipping fees. I can imagine when you were working you sat around for sometime during the day (non productive labor) then perhaps you had to hurry to do a job. Your employer paid you just the same. In shipping there is more than the box you get. it's bookeeping, people picking orders, payments for conveyors, building rent, lights heat, phone, webmaster, printing labels, and many more things. If you can buy it cheaper then do it. Not too long a time ago, someone stole my sewer hose. I got the Rino hose at Wal Mart for less that CW and no shipping. Look around and do your best at shopping.

As much as I am all for supporting the mom and pop shops, reality is, if you find that item in one of those stores it will likely be more expensive than the item was at CW with shipping costs.

They have to mark up higher just to make enough profit to stay open.

As for CW having rude employees, I have heard more to the contrary, that they generally have good customer service. Several posts in this thread alone supports that.

I didn't buy it -- due to the ridiculous amount of shipping.

The issue is that among retailers, Camping World seems to be one of the worst at overcharging for shipping. And they are a membership based model, so making your customers look elsewhere doesn't just cost them the profit on that one item, it also costs them future memberships.

If you owned a business, and you were losing business due to outrageous shipping, would you want to know about it?

If only the forum was membership based.

I guess some people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about. Did you click on the 'more details' tab under the $5.95 shipping logo? I presume that it likely would have told you on order of $50 or $100 or more or something like that. As far as the common sense thing...mine would have told me to go elsewhere to buy rather than to rv.net to complain.

perhaps....

but are you complaining about me complaining?

my common sense did tell me to go elsewhere, and I did. You know, it is possible to do both....if you'll take the time to look at the heading, it says, General RVing Issues. I thought that this issue fit here nicely.

Sorry if you don't agree.
You can take it as complaining if you desire, but, since we woke up this morning to take on another day, we really shouldn't be complaining...
