Looking at the same model. Wondering what you are pulling it with and what type of hitch brake setup you have. Thinking this thing is exactly what I have been looking for. Let me know what you like or dislike too. Thanks, looks great!
I love the layout it's great.. I didn't want something that I had to climb over the table to get into the bed. I like the couch layout. We placed the tv above the window over the dinettes. For couch viewing, then if we want to view from bed we put it back over the fridge area.. A few choices I wish would be included..
1. The closet I wish would be more of a pantry with shelving. ( I may mod this to be a pantry with wire shelving.
2. I wish it would have a outdoor shower. I kayak and fish a lot and I like to clean my Pfd's, waders , fishing poles and kayak..
I towed this with a Hyundai mini van.. (short distances of up to 60 miles ) any farther than that I use my dads Dodge something or other big ol truck that he pulls is 5th wheel with.
In my van I have installed the voyager brake system this is what the Dealer I bought my boat from 2 years ago suggested when I bought the boat..
I have the Weight distrubtion hitch. I have yet to pick this up as it was on order the day I pulled it home..
I'm in western MI and the dealer we used was awesome and has had great customer service..
I am also in Western MI, Muskegon to be exact. I am guessing you got it from Veurinks then huh? Been doind a lot of homework, and I am quite sure that my Colorado will be up to the task with WD and a brake controller. We have a small dealer here in Muskegon that deals with classics, Cliff's trailer and auto. They have all all their models at the Muskegon Mall right now, but not this one. I had a chance to talk with him, and what a nice man. He wasn't the typical salesman at all, and I think he would look out for what is best for my family in the end. Did they get you a good price on the model. I like the Escape version a little better than the classic, but it would come down to price in the end. Look forward to hearing your experience this summer. I am going to widen my driveway this summer, and look at getting one ordered for next Spring, so I have a year to learn and study.
Well if you want to take the drive to Holland sometime your welcome to Come walk thru mine. We also really liked the Looks and some of the things that are included with the Escape series. The wood floors, glass inlays in cabinets , radio, and of course DW likes the colors.
We did get it From veurinks. I cant say enough about how much I like this Dealer. We ended up getting what i think was a great deal. It came down to about 15 dollars a month Diffenrence between the escape and the classic. I said get that number down to 10 dollars a month and we will sign pappers.
I am looking at a ford explorer sporttrac..
What is the towing capicity on the colorado ?
Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on that sometime this summer. Can't wait to hear what you like or dislike about it once you get out there for a while. Now you know I am going to be bugging the heck out of you. Keep me posted.
My colorado is rated at 4000lbs. The newer ones are 5500 with only 20 more hp and tq, same body and chassis. I guess the hitch has a few more mounts and the brakes are a little larger. I have talked to many on my Colorado forum pulling way over 4k, and without brakes and wd. I plan to do both, so I am not too worried. I too looked at sport tracs. Only thing that turned me off was the box size as I am an ice fisherman and it would not hold the ol shanty. Inside of the sport trac is nicer than my crew cab z71. I do like my truck, and in 08 it became available with the v8.
I noticed veurinks has a few on their site. I was at first looking at 16 footers around $9k-$10k. They have the classic and escape 18rbt's listed at $12800 and $14700ish repectively. I hace read that many get 15-20% off msrp. Do you know if they are listing their "selling" price or msrp on the site. I am thinking 14k plus might be getting a little toward the top of what I was thinking I wanted to invest, so I may have to settle for the classic.
Anyway, nice to meet you, small world. Lemme know if you are ever coming North, I manage a restaurant in N.M, you could stop in for a break and get a bite to eat. Rig looks great, I would have chosen that fabric if I ordered one.

I don't have any problem towing my Jayco 17Z with my Colorado Z71 crew cab. Though, I don't usually go more than a couple hours from home. That isn't because of the truck though, it's mainly because of my severe back problems that I can't drive more than that without a lot of trouble.
The thing with the Colorado is that they initially under rated the tow capacity and then updated it with only adding .2 liters. It has the same 460LE transmission that is in the Avalanche and some of the Silverados. In the case of the 2006 for example, it has a max COMBINED weight of 9300 lbs and a curb weight of just over 4000 lbs. that leaves 5300 lbs, but they rated it at 4000lb tow capacity. In the newer colorados, they made the rated tow capacity much closer to the Max combined weight minus the curb weight which is why its 5500 lbs. They increased the max combined weight slightly to, probably because of the .2 Liter increase in the engine.
You won't win any races up hill, but I do fine.
Also, I know you say you'll do brakes, but honestly it's not an option not to. Anything over 2000 lbs (at least around here) is required anyway. I have an Equalizer brand hitch and like it a lot.
Oh, and I did add a transmission cooler the second year of towing the Jayco, but I didn't notice much of a difference. I have a scan guage on my dash and monitor the temp.

I understand that the brakes are the law, but i talk to tons of guys who still dont do it. I was just stating that I was not one of them is all. Good info on the truck. I wondered what the difference was. So you are telling me the plan was to release the i5 in 3.3L form, then they made it 3.5? I know the newer ones are 3.7.

The 3.5 vortec was the original and had the 4000 lb tow capacity. It was some time after they went to 3.7 (adding only .2 liters) that they upped the tow capacity.
When the Colorado/Canyon came out, one of the big criticisms in reviews was the low (4000 lb) tow capacity compared to other trucks in the same class and size. Most vehicles are rated roughly by the max combined weight minus the truck weight and and then figuring for only a 150 lb driver. Anything else in the truck reduced the towing capacity by that much. But, for some reason GM rated it way below that formula.
Somewhere around 2007-2008, they recalculated it more to the standard formula and came up with the 5500 lbs. Other than going to 3.7, there was no change in drive train, brakes, etc.
I can't find it now, but a few years ago on the Colorado fans forum, someone posted something from GM - I think it was from a brochure or press release about the towing capacity increase. It basically said that they had originally rated it very conservatively and recalculated it after the update.
My guess is they were loosing sales with the lower capacity and changed it.
Hello fellow West michigander..
Thanks everyone for the truck advice. This is really helpful since im in the market for a new TV in the next year.
