if air is getting into the fuel system...around the fuel filter, that made my mileage go down considerably. I have a 2005 LLY.

Wow! Some very good suggestions and possible solutions. Thank you all. I think I can eliminate the suggestions and observations about running cold ( = poor mileage) and things like that. As I mentioned previously, I drive it exactly as I did when I purchased it one year ago(in the winter) so I don't think that could be it. I am definitely not a mechanic so I will try and check things like the air filter and oil level but that is about it. The rest will have to be done at the dealership.
I did check yesterday at the garage that changed my oil and they were sure that they did not hook up any kind of computer to the truck. They said they don't even have one that would read it properly anyways. I trust these guys so that thought is out.
I will poke around under the hood today and possibly make an appointment soon to get it checked out. Thank you all.
I never thought about changing the oil again. I am not sure what that will do other than possibly change the level? If all else fails I may give it a shot.

I just checked the oil. Seems to be at the correct level- right at the full mark. Also checked the air filter- wasn't perfect but certainly didn't look too bad. Unless this filter needs to be perfectly white and clean this can't be the problem either. I am approaching the end of this current tank of fuel and I will post my mileage numbers when I fill up later today.
Currently my truck has about 43000 miles. I have heard that the diesels get better mileage with age but my main concern is that it is so much different (in a bad way) than just a few months ago. And once again, I did have this truck during last winter so I figure I should be at least able to achieve those numbers, not significantly less. Something must be up.

Check all vacuum hoses, wires, clips, etc in area where oil is changed, top and bottom. Not everything codes.

Mine started getting better and more consistent mileage at around 32000.

I saw some posts talking about DPF and regen but GM did not add the EPA junk until 2009 in the LMM version. They added DEF in 2011.

Have you figured out what the MPG actually is?

The point of changing the oil is if they put the wrong weight or wrong amount in.

They added the dpf in the 2007.5 models....as soon as the body style changed.

Or the wrong type, like ci4 instead of cj4 which could cause more frequent regens because of the additives it has that cj4 doesn't.

Some oil change places put 10/30 in everything. That is good for your 1975 Chevy, but wrong for most other late model vehicles. It sure wouldn't be right for a diesel.

If it started right after the oil change, that would be a clue.

Is it colder than normal the last while? Increased idle times? Tire pressure correct? Start with tthe simple things first. throw in a bottle of conditioner with the nex fill up.
