This works. Take your postal code ie. P3E 3R8 ..... take the numbers 338 and add two zeros 33800 put in as zip code. It
won't compromise the postal code on your credit card and it satisfies the US zip code request.

Currently in Texas and have found random 5 digits work most of the time. Have used your method as well but it doesn't always work. I think I had the most problem in the dakotas, Iowa etc. It might depend on which stations you use. Like I said, sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't.

It only worked one time and I tried it everytime we filled up in Texas.
The only time it worked was that one fill up in Rockport.

We have solved the problem by my wife taking the card in and waiting inside while we fill up.
Never had to use a code at the pump that way.

I have not been able to make the 000 thing work in TX this year.
A few years back it almost always worked.

A couple of Winters back I realized I needed that walk back and forth to the service station every 4 hrs. I got to know almost exactly how much gas I needed and payed in cash, in-out quick.

This only works sometimes and then only when the address verification system (AVS) has not been fully implemented at the station in question. AVS compares the zip code you enter at the pump with the zip code on file with your credit card issuer. There is no zip code or postal code on the credit card itself. There are a number of solutions. I put a US address on my credit card for the time I am in the states and this works all the time everywhere. Some, but not all, CDN debit cards with PIN will work at some stations (both the bank issuing the card and the station must be associated with the NYCE network). CDN banks generally levy a fee for using a debit card in the US. No fee for using a US bank issued debit card with PIN and it will work at all stations.

I am not sure if is the dealer or the credit card companies requiring zip codes. I always notify my card company when we leave home to come down here. Recently at HEB pump I was required by the message to punch the zip and it refused. I used the home one and it worked. It does alert the card company that you are in a different zip. More pumps are requiring it. A bit of a hassle but if it is for my protection, good.

We were recently in Q and I stopped to fill up the toad. A fellow Canadian was having trouble as he had a Canadian card. I punched in my US Zip and it woked fine. Lorne and Lorraine have given the bset answer. If the computer is looking for your actual zip code the adding 0's does NOT work. Otherwise you could enter any valid zip code.Try 90210!
