Perhaps I can help folks understand what may be going on between these 2 types of tires. It was clear in that closed thread that there are some mis-conceptions.
Ya' see, I am a tire engineer with a major tire manufacturer - over 30 years in the business. I've got quite a bit of insight into how this works.
Is anyone interested in reviving the discussion
All of the posts I read were pretty much spot on as far as being on topic, and if they strayed, it was the OP that was willing to answer, and he should of been able to decide what was on HIS topic and what wasn't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Disregarding the several usual members that don't like any kind of moderation, what is occurring in most of the tire threads is that there are a handful of members that take over the threads. Then the next step is they begin attacking each other and any that oppose them. At that point Frank and I start getting all kinds of notifies (most justified). It's a no win situation. We delete the out of line post and then have to either edit or delete all the posts quoting it. It takes a lot of time and is very discouraging.
We don't have any way of merging threads/posts as someone suggested so that is out.
We can let them run and ignore the notifies or try to control them to some degree which is the path I have chosen. If I had a separate sub-forum for them, I would probably opt to move them all there and let them run but there is no programming time available.

Unfortunately, you missed all the posts that had to be deleted. I saw most of them and believe that the moderator did the right thing. Certain individuals had jumped in with both feet and the arguments were starting. Frank tried to fix it, but it continued and they had no choice.
It's not the moderators that are the problem. It is the posters that get out of control that cause these things.

Rats! I got on today specifically to read the tire thread by CapriRacer. That was the most informative tire threads I've ever seen. Oh well, stuff happens.

I would like to see the thread come back as a question answer thread. We could ask Capriracer a question and he could answer the question without anyone pilling on. We can decide on the quality of his answer.

So, I'm making another attempt. I decided that this topic might be better if it wasn't just in the 5th wheel forum, so I put it in the Tech forum:

Have fun, guys.

I have been saying that for years.

The only thing I can say about all that is that maybe it's time to get different software then. vBulletin and about half a dozen other softwares have the ability to merge threads or posts and making a new sub-forum takes about 10 minutes.
Just saying that this software is pretty limited and maybe not the best business solution.

no need for a software change,
If it's always the same few people, then the answer is simple. Pull them aside and warn them, and then remove them if need be.
Simple.
