Planning a trip to Nova Scotia and PEI this summer.....probably leave late July and return mid September, heavy traffic time of year.
I'm starting out from southern Delaware and looking for the best route to take.....I-95 is the most direct, but I'm not a big fan of running it from Wilmington thru Phily, NY and CT.....especially when I'll be pulling a 37' 5'er.
I'm considering taking I-95 from Wilmington to 476 (the northeast extension of the PA Turnpike).....476 to Allentown, then 78 to 287 in NJ......287 to 87 (NY Thruway)......to I-84....at Sturbridge get on 90 to 495.....then run 495 to 95 north.
....is this a good route to travel....appreciate any advice!

Starting at I78, that is pretty much the route I take.

We went up to Nova Scotia back in 2008. From where we are in NJ, it made more sense to take the Tappan Zee to I684 to join I84, then I90, I495 and I95.
For your consideration, we crossed the border at Calais/St Stephen. Route 9 from Bangor to Calais is a good 2 lane and was newly paved when we drove it. From St. Stephen, route 1 is mostly divided highway with some 2 good lane sections. This route allowed us make some stops to experience the tides in the Bay of Fundy on the way to NS. We only had 3 weeks and ran out of time seeing Cape Breton in NS, so we didn't get to PEI on that trip.

X2 with what CloudDriver said. Tappan Zee and 684 by far the best way to get to 84. The only thing we do differently is to take exit 27 off 84 to 691, exit 11 to 91 north and then exit 29 to get back on 84 north. Sounds complicated, but trust me, it isn't and it avoids a nasty stretch of 84 from about 10 miles west of Hartford and through Hartford.

I'm very familiar with the Tappan Zee/684 route to 84.....but everytime I took it there was tons of traffic.....so I was thinking that the 87 to 84 route may be better since I'm towing a 37' 5er.....but I will re-consider since I know it's shorter.....and thanks for the tip around Hartford!

Me too....
I am going to make an effort to see you guys this year. believe it or not, we have been going to Killens almost every weekend. We may try Lums in a week or 2. Hopefully we will see you guys at Trap this year. Only a few weeks to go for opening day.
