I don't think the phrase "you're a jackass" can be based on proven science.
Cots are fine if you're a warm weather camper, but dangerous for winter camping. Thousands of people camp comfortably with cots in warm weather without dying.
Ha! How did I not know that? I was an English major after all. I read the Chronicles of Narnia when I was a kid but haven't read much C.S. Lewis since then. Regarding the cot, I did a closer search in the cots section of this site's camping page and found one called the Blantex XK. It looks like Blantex makes a lot of different cots with roll up mattresses. Looks promising.
