Just got by mail forwarding that OHIP is up for renewal. We would need a 2 1/2 week extension before we go home. Anybody have any experience with this?

I still have the old card without picture so I haven't had to deal with this..

What do you mean by up for renewal?
Where you out of province for more than seven months?

No it is the Ontario Health Card Renewal Notice that comes due on your birthday and is sent two months prior. So if your birthday is in March, it is sent out in January.

I'm sure that you'll be fine. This is Canada after all and we don't want to offend anyone! As other posts have said if you have the old red and white style without the picture they never expire. It was all a big scam when they went with the new style card and renewing is a real PITA. There was just too many of the old style cards and this was their way to eliminate the bogus cards.

Captain, what is the scam?
Its no charge to get the card, you only have to renew it every 5 years and they time it to be at same time as drivers license. How much more convenient can it be made?
The real scam is people who are not entitled, using the old card and adding cost to the system that we all end up paying for!

You take your forms and the old card and go to a designated MTO drivers licence/ licence Plate office.. they take the info and your pic..and punch a hole in the old card, approx 6 weeks later you get the new card...no big deal... Had to do it afore we left in November...

My old card disintegrated from age so had no choice but to get the new one. Wife's card is still trucking and she was told to keep it as long as possible to avoid just this happenstance: - having to renew the stupid things.

I'm sure if travelling you could explain and be granted an extension. I sure wouldn't tell them if you've been out longer than the 200 odd days though.

Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!
