Never had one, but was wondering about eyestrain with Kindle, et al, as opposed to paper. Also, is the display readable outdoors on a sunny day? Just wondering.

You can choose fonts and text size. Looks just like paper print in the daylight. No eyestrain. It is not backlit like some earlier e-readers so you do need light to read at night.

DW is an avid reader. I have no doubt that she has read thousands of books. She got a kindle last year and loves it. She has been giving boxes of books away every sense then.

I have a Kindle app on my iPod Touch. With it, I can check out e-books from my local library and take them on trips to read offline. This has added to, not (at least not yet) displaced the pile of paper books which usually accompanies me on trips.

I have one and LOVE it. I download free books (some good, some not), fiction written by RV'rs and buy some. I was getting confused about which ones I've read, so I made a "Collection Read" and move the ones I've read to that collection. Then eventually they are moved to my "Archive" on Amazon. I use my Kindle outside with no problems at all. I used to take it to work and would read in my car at lunch, the only thing was when it was freezing outside, I would take it with me inside while I worked rather than leave in car. I do have a problem reading in bed without my glasses...my arm isn't quite long enough.

Still love maps on paper. Also love the tactile feel of books that you dont get from an ereader. That being said, I love reading the news on my iPad because you get video and sound bites.

My wife and I each have one. With our subscription to Amazon we can download books into either Kindle and transfer it to the other at any time; all legal.
We read in bed and holding up one of McCullough's tomes was too much. The Kindle makes any size book the same weight.

I'm just waiting for the first set of viruses to come out that *contaiminates* the firmware on one like you can do to a smart phone. Thousands of people with $100+ paper weights .
Can't hack a real book.
Personally, won't have one, especially given that you don't physically own any single book you have on there.
With all digital media provided by a supplier you are basically being licensed a copy to use when you make the purchase, you never actually own the media, which is the same with all software you purchase.
Also, it's much easier for a government or controlling entity to remove what they decide is a "Banned Book" from a digital format than it is to track down printed copies.

Originally bought a Sony eReader because the local library did not have the Kindle format available for loan. You could not see the Sony in direct sunlight. When the library added the Kindle format for loans I switched to a Kindle which you can read in direct sunlight.
