I've often planned my trips around this event. Some of the best places I've enjoyed the show to date were: Lake Powell, nice and warm, lay out in the deck some 50 plus miles upriver from Page arizona. About as dark as you can find.
Kodachrome Basin State Park Utah. Again, almost no light pollution reaches this little valley, and it's far enough away from Bryce Canyon to avoid the lights from the park entrance.
Goblin Valley State Park Utah. Again, no towns of significant size anywhere around, warm nights for lying out.
Haven't figure out where we will go this year. Maybe up on a mountain somewhere in the great basin area.
Tim, you may be surprised at how many meteors you will see on the nights before and after the peak -- most showers (including the Perseids) are distributed over several days. So Saturday night should be worthwhile.

In 2010 we were 60 miles from Bend, OR, and were amazed at the view whatever the date was. Totally dark and the weather was perfect. We lay on the paved parking lot and just stared up. Thanks for the reminder. We'll find a place to look again. Great photo.
I thought I would revieve this topic since we are just a little better than a week away! We're planning on being up in the Mammoth Lakes-Coleville, Ca area during this event....hoping for Clear skies!
