This is a good post...my DW was asking the other day how long our 6 Gal. hot water heater will last. I am ex Vietnam Vet, so I know what a cold shower is. I am usually in and out. We just moved up from a PUP with no shower so anything is a blessing. I will be sure to use both the propane and electric when we are ready.

The 6 gal heaters run much hotter than your house one, so less hot water is mixed with the cold. I can't see how you would run out, but I take Navy showers also.

Don't know what brand water heater you have........
If Atwood, swapping out a 6 gallon for 10 does require a bigger opening in side of rig and a deeper area to slide heater into.
Atwood 6 gallon......16"W x 12.5"H x 18"D
Atwood 10 gallon.....16"W x 15.5"H x 20.8"D

Swapping out an Atwood 6 gallon for an XT model (uses a mixing valve on back of heater=9 gallons) would be easier...same size opening just need 19.5"D
BUT there have been problems with the mixing valve units.......mixing valve malfunctioning so do some research if you are thinking about a swap.

Otherwise......conserve hot water use and use gas/electric for faster recovery

The tankless option would be fine except for those that spend a lot of time as hosts or other volunteers where electric is provided. When I am hosting I only use propane for cooking and that isn't much.

From that website: "the temperature of the hot water coming out of the hot water faucet is determined by how open or closed the hot water faucet is; the faster the flow, the cooler the water; the slower the flow, the hotter the water. By adjusting the flow, RV’ers can literally have endless hot water!"

So, if you run the water too fast, it will be colder. Something tells me the OP wants a fast flowing shower with lots of hot water - otherwise, they would have figured out to do Navy showers.

These things should be standard issue on all RV's. Just shows you RV manufacturer's are not in business to satisfy customers, only to make a Buck by buying bulk, cheap items that require lots of service calls to the dealer.

Always have electric hook ups? Get a 20 gallon 110V at HD or lowes, mount it under the sink.

Most of the time we go camping it is with six people, four of them women. We can all take showers, with a low flow head, by not dilly dallying. We do not do GI showers and do not run out of hot water. This does not include washing hair as this is another story completely. Ed
