Our current Toad is getting long in the tooth (2003 Honda Pilot) and we are looking for a new SUV type, which can be towed 4 down, and have a towing capacity of 5000 lbs (we tow a 4500 lb C Dory on occasion). We don't want a truck and have reservations about "jeeps". Any suggestions?
Thanks!

We used to tow a Chevy Blazer four down which could in turn tow 5K lbs. Not sure if the newer Chevy SUVs will fit the bill.

You may have reservations about Jeeps but there are more Jeep toads than about any other vehicle. The Jeep Liberty makes a great toad and it has a 5000 # capacity. The Grand Cherokee is a nice car and with the 5.7 engine you would have a 7200 # capacity. Both vehicles need to be 4x4s.

Any of your GM, standard size 4X4 SUV's are towable 4 down. Some of the mid size SUV's are, but none of the AWD SUV's are towable.

If you're used to Honda quality, trust me -- you're not going to be happy with a Liberty (check frequency-of-repair records for each).

The 4500# capacity of a 2012 Pilot is a little too shy, eh?

New Grand Cherokees are great, especially with the V6.

I tow an automatic 08 Jeep Liberty 4x4 that is essentially 'plug & play'; no steering lock, no key in the ignition, no starting requirements, no lube pumps or driveshaft disconnect. Just hitch it up, put the transfer case in neutral, gear shift lever in Park and go.

Have had it going on 4 years now and it's been a great vehicle.

I know I recommended the Liberty, but has anyone actually hauled something close to 5000#s with it? Just curious.

The GMC Acadia / Chevy Traverse has a 5200 lb towing capacity and can be towed 4-down.
