We got a quote to remove ours. $800-$1000 and they wouldn't guarantee that we wouldn't have to paint afterwards. My DH and another RV tech removed most of it working non stop for 2 days. As stated above, heat guns, plastic scrapers and lots and lots of elbow grease and sore fingers. After we removed it, we still had to remove the sticky adhesive. We used Goo Gone for that step. We will still have to have the front painted because of some too deep paint scrapes. I would never again have 3M put on the front. Don't try it when the weather is cold. Wait until the weather is warm and sunny out.

This is important. 3M is 3M, Diamond Shield is Diamond Shield, and there are others. A friend of mine has been using 3M stuff for more than 10 years. He's never had a problem with it yellowing, getting stuck on, or ruining paint.

Talked to a man that used Goo Gone to ease the removal. He stated that it was a slow process and left plenty of adhesive on the paint. He also stated that when adhesive was NOT remaining there was no paint. Patches of paint went with the 3M DiamondShield. Our 3M film has mold under the film and looks really bad. The 3M was on the MH when purchased and we thought it was a good idea, but, it turned bad in about 3 years.
Spell check did not werk, so please 4 giv mrs-spellins.

When we had problems with our Star Shield 3M front protection, they removed it with an electric steamer vs. a heat gun. Started at the edge and heated it with the steam, then pulled it horizontally vs. vertically and as it stretched, it would lift from the surface. The Rep. that did it took approx. 2-3 hrs. as I can recall. It had been on since built by T.S. and was covered under warranty for mildew under the edges. There were only 2-3 small areas that removed the clear coat when removing the film. This was repainted and reinstalled the next day. It now has been on for approx. 4 years, as I recall and still looks like the day replaced.

I still prefer this to repainting since this would cost a lot more, IMO.

Lucky dude !! As per all other posts, this stuff sukks. I will custom order my next rig, just so I don't get stuck w/this krapp again. Don't forget, dealers make most all of their prof$$$it from "options". Try to buy a rig w/o washer/dryer, mirrors on the ceiling, diamond Sheilt, side view (useless cameras)etc, et al ! Robbie

BS. 3M has had just as many problems with mildewing as DS has. It depends where it is installed (humidity). It is a continuing problem that is batch specific. As far as pulling paint, it is a function of how old the paint was when installed and how patient the tech is when he takes it off.

All I can say is "Never again".

Perhaps, but I talked to the guy doing it, and he was stationed right there at Lazy Days. After all is said and done, it's gone, never to return. Robbie
