Charlie, he never said soap got on his sensors. He did say the sensors are on the "outside" of the tank! He also said that the mfg suggested he might have a "soap build up" on the inside of his tank at the 8% level. Read the OPs post again.
To the OP, you might try some of the commercial "soap scum removers" that is used for shower doors and walls. On your trip to Phoenix, put in a bottle of your choice with a few gallons of water and let it slosh around during the trip. Upon arrival, drain the tank and then refill and drain again. Not sure if this will work, but it might be worth the effort/cost.
If this does work, I would then put in the Calgon on the next trip and every trip thereafter.
Good luck

Now I always use some TSP in both tanks and that keeps any thing from sticking.
Glad it worked for you BUT.....
Vinegar is neutralized by Baking soda
Suggest you use one or the other but not both

Unless I read it incorrectly the soap buildup was not on the sensors directly but a buildup on the inside of the tank where the sensors are attached on the outside of the tank. While I was thinking about your response about trying to help I remembered that when I was in an RV park in San Leon, TX last year there was an outfit that came to a neighboring RV and cleaned the RV black tank from the outside with high pressure. Not sure if they did the same for grey tanks but they showed pictures on their web site of before and after cleaning and it looked like a new tank. I am going to ping around and see if I can find that website again and post the link if I find it. Not sure if their would be anything like that at the OP location but it might be something to consider.

cdking1 wrote: Hi, these cheap little sensors on the tanks are mostly a joke. If they have a coating on them and stay wet they will show a reading. People have used the bags of ice trick, put a few gallons of water, a couple of bags of ice and drive to slosh the ice around, seems to work okay. But they get clogged up again. You can prove this by letting the sensors dry out and you readings will probablay go to low or empty. I finally gave up on them and empty based on estimated use or when you see water backing up in the shower drain, usually the low point of the grey system. A lot of people just leave the grey valve open when parked, I have a masarater so I open and close mine based on need. charlie in texas
You obviously did not carefully read the original post or do not understand what the SeeLevel sensors are (they read from outside the tank and never get wet).

When you add baking soda to vinegar it foams, and that action cleans the soap scum. The ice cubes (if you can get them in ) help scrub the tank.

Using bar soap? I gave that up and only use liquid soap. bar soap will turn back into a solid when it drys as evidenced on shower walls. I haven't had a bit of build up in sinks or shower since switching. Well, except where it spills and dries in a glob.

How about some simple green concentrate and a few gallons of hot water before driving around?

I wouldn't bother but if I did I'd probably use the shower drain.

x1 on the Seelevel system. We use Pine Power. We pour a little into the tanks with tanks about 1/3 full, travel and let them slosh around. We then dump when we arrive at the campground. Smells good and keeps the tanks clean.
