I wouldn't bother but if I did I'd probably use the shower drain.
I think it would be difficult to get any ice cubes past a P-trap.

Sounds like a bothersome advice then.

I had the same problem with my level indicators until I had the tanks professionally cleaned by a company in Phoenix that specializes in holding tank cleaning. The technician that cleaned the tanks told me that the grey tanks almost always have the most build up in them because people tend to leave them open most of the time and the soap bubbles carry grease and other debris down into the tank and deposit on the sides. The device they use to clean the tanks allows you to see the sludge that comes from the tank and it is amazing how much stuff gets flushed out. The company is called Tank Techs 623 566-1533.

you might try a tank soaking with trisodium phosphate (TSP) then a rinsing.

Grey tanks get gunked up as bad or worse than the black tank and can smell almost as bad.

Toothpaste is about the worst...use plenty of water to rinse it down and/or a shot of a cleaning product like Mr. Clean to help prevent build up.

Bar soap seems bad too. Some liquid soaps build up less.

I've heard that Calgon is one of the best to help clean tanks and keep them from getting bad again.

The best invention ever made was the in-tank tank sprayer. Some coaches have it on both black and gray.
