I really like Carnaval here in La Paz. Fun but very family oriented and never an incident (I'm knocking on wood) in spite of the crowds. Here is a link to the La Paz Carnaval page. This is a great time of year to visit.
One day, we'll have to take the ferry over to Mazatlan. Would love to see that city as well.
Oh, my gosh, what a party last night!! Music everywhere. MORE people than I've EVER seen at the Saturday night Combate Naval (fireworks) in my 13 years of attending the event. Couples and singles dancing anywhere and everywhere the mood struck. Restaurants along Olas Altas jam-packed to the gills. And, my favorite Plaza Machado? So packed with people after the fireworks that we couldn't even get through the crowd. I know that some people don't like that kind of crowd, but for me... hey, it's party time, and I don't even drink! I DO dance, though, and there were plenty of people to dance with last night. The fireworks themselves were spectacular from my vantage point. For those of you who know the area, we were on street level in front of Hotel Freeman, at the south end of Olas Altas beach. I love everything about Carnaval Mazatlan, so am going back for more fun today, to join my neighbors at our favorite place on the Malecon for the afternoon and for tonight's parade. Vive Mazatlan! Vive Carnaval!
