Thanks, Gary, I get it. 28ft from tongue to spare, but model is 25J. Ask for 28 and probably have more than enough room.
Gotta bring it back to my original question, though: When the description is RV's to 28 ft are they thinking single unit motorhomes or are they including travel trailers in that description? The obvious answer has been that it depends on each campground and each author of the descriptions. Was hoping there was a travel trailer consensus that for someone with a 25J or 28J (for example) would find plenty of room in each site described as for RV's up to 25 or 28 ft, respectively. It's getting tough here in California to find access to phone advice from someone at the campground.

my trailer tongue to spare is about 30 feet... i always chose 25 foot trailer as my equipment when registering for sites online... i have never had a problem with space. it's just a generalized ballpark number... pretty much telling you that a 50 foot motorhome isn't going to fit. every park we've stayed at.. we could probably fit a good 35 foot trailer on the sites we've been on. in michigan they give a rough estimate of the site dimensions too. say 35 feet wide by 40 feet deep.

Living just North of you, i think i do understand your question. In my opinion they are including Travel Trailers in that description. My experience is there is ample room in those sites for larger rigs. Up here both Fed and State Parks ( about 20 I visited ) had more than enough room for my 33 ft. in stes marked 28 ft. Can't leave truck attached but at Shasta Lake 3 weeks ago I got a 40 ft. Pad that took both the Truck and Trailer nearly 59 ft. We walked the park and found all sites were understated in their actural size. Now that said? I did see several sites with big pads, that had really bad access and listed as "shorter sites". It was because someone figured you could not get the rig into them. I had to agree, large rocks or trees, fences, curves, prevented getting the turning radis i needed to fit. Therefore I personally feel the designers or superintendents label sites more by access. That can obviously create the illusion the site that is too small. Not scientific but it seems to hold true so far. I have been told by rangers and I quote ". You get it in that space and don't block the road" you can stay! Hope that helps !
Yes, AG, you do get it!
You're experience with out state/fed campgrounds is perfect.
There's no problem with private campgrounds. They answer the phone and are always (in my experience) glad to help find a site just right.
It's good to know you've had positive experiences.
I'm going to be having a lot more exposure to your area now that I'm based out of Marysville. It'll be nice to have a little less urban in my camping experiences.
Like others it varies. Many ask you for the size of your camping unit. We usually exaggerate a little in order to make sure we are not squeezed into something. Sometimes they list total length. It will be just one of those things that when you get all unhooked and set up, that you may have to park your track perpendicular or at an angle. If lots sound small (under 40 ft), then that has been normally in our experience in revelence to the cmaping unit size. If it says 60'+, then that is usually the length of the lot.
