I would like to tow my 1995 Geo Tracker, 4 wheel drive, manual transmission, with automatics hubs. Heard that it is a bad idea. But manual hubs will work, and automatic hubs can be changed to manual hubs. Does anyone have any experience with this and can shed some light on the issue?

I have a 1995 Geo Tracker 4x4 with manual hubs that I tow on occasion. You are correct, the book states to tow, you need to replace the auto hubs, with manual hubs. Not a big deal, you probably could do it yourself.

I had shop install these on my 95 Sidekick with automatic transmission. Took about one hour.

Bought my manual hubs at JC Whitney. I like them much better than the automatic hubs. At least I know now if the hubs are locked or not.

I've been towing a '94 Sidekick for 18 years. I bought the manual hubs and had the dealer install them when I first purchased the vehicle. This has been one great tow vehicle. 180,000 miles and counting with no major repairs and she still gets 26-27 mpg.
