we have a laptop but its been fixed and rednecked to many times haha. its on its last leg. plus the sound isnt that great so when I plug it into the stereo for more sound there is a constant hum. I have to have tv's a little loud due to my loss of hearing, lifelong equipment operator.

I've read all three pages here and I must say, my head is spinning. First off, unless you're always on shore power, you really should be running a 12 volt television. You're storing power in the DC form ie 12V. Use it that way, it's much more efficient.

Secondly, I've seen some resources mentioned here that I wouldn't trust with my email address let alone my cc#. There are two places I shop online for my camping and camper stuff, for me it's either http://www.campingworld.com or http://www.12volt-travel.com. In fact "bobndot" mentioned 12volt-travel and I'm pretty sure these were mentioned somewhere in my wedding vows too . They are both very knowledgeable, reputable and friendly. Here today and gone tomorrow to save a buck isn't my cup of tea (not that I like tea). On top of that one of the resources mentioned (if you do a little digging) talks about how they send proceeds to an overseas charity.

I'm not against donating to charitable organizations, but I do what I can to help out the USA first and above all others. Especially at a time when our country needs your support more than ever.

Think it's time for this old man to go for a walk and cool off a bit. Sorry for the rant. Dolly (wife over shoulder) seconds my reply and wants me to ease up on the keyboard.

Have a wonderful day, it's Wednesday, hump day, it's all down hill to departure for us. Headed to Yellowstone early Friday! Happy Trails!

My new lance had a 19in samsung Led it was nice, so nice I pulled it out and stuck in the kids room. IMO defeats the point of being in a camper, good for rainy days I guess, not for me.

A built-in DVD player is easier to manage than a separate netbook and external DVD player and then there are often problems with audio with this setup. We have one netbook with a full HDMI port that provides video and audio to a TV.

Often the low end, meaning smaller, TV's have the built-in DVD included and there is not an added cost. When one size is being phased out like the 17" when they were being replaced by the 19" models the old models are heavily discounted.

Viewing distance is also a consideration. The closer the set the smaller it can and often should be in size. Smaller means easier to move out of the way when not in use and usually a lower power draw.

The LED versions if available in a small size should be a lot more energy efficient than the ones that use the fluorescent tubes to provide backlighting of the display.

No manufacturer makes TV sets for RV use with better shock absorption anymore than the microwaves being sold for RV use. One simply buys the cheapest available and expects a short life compared to something used at home.

I bought a 15" LCD from Walmart which is AC or 12 volt DC. It has performed well in all conditions, EXCEPT, it is too small and does not have a built-in digital tuner. I intend to replace it with a 22" LCD/LED Vizio, I don't usually get one with a built-in DVD, because in my experience the DVD devices fail early. I now run the satellite reciever and the DVD on a small inverter. When I add a new 22" Vizio I'll have to use the inverter for it also, when off the grid. A good quality 300 watt inverter, wired directly to the battery bank, has worked well for us. Use heavy guage wire with the shortest run to the inverter possible, fused.

I just ordered one of these:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/827597-REG/RCA_DECK15DR_DECK15DR_15_6_LED_TV.html

Works on AC or 12 volt. Has DVD player. Digital tuner. LED flat screen.

Curtis makes a 19 and 24" TV/DVD combo that come with 120V - 12V adapter built into the power cord. You can go to Radio Shack and buy a straight 12V cord.

I did the Radio Shack cords with two Insignia LCD TV's (Best Buy), and they've been working fine for going on four years. There are several small LCD / LED TV's that will operate this way. Just check the adapter to confirm it is 12V power going to the TV.

Here is a EWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649">link to a 24" unit on eBay. Input power to the TV is 3 Amp 12V.

I looked at SAMS CLUB tonight and they has a LG and some other brand with the DC transformer but they are not 12 volt. The LG was 19V and the other one was 14 Volt. Has anyone looked at your transformer to see what the actual output is? If so how are they working on the 12 volts from the RV?

Thanks
