We are early risers, so hitting the road @ 4 or 5 in the am works for us.
Best part of the day and little traffic.
Like others we try to relocate during the week when on an extended trip.

ditto on Monday thru Thursday travel between 9am and 3pm. Friday traffic seems more busy. Sometimes we will leave on Sunday morning but are sure to be at our next stop before 3pm. We avoid travel on holiday weekends if at all possible. We make reservations for the weekends and for holidays otherwise we know where we're going to stop but don't make reservations. We avoid major cities if possible. We take US Highways when available.

We drive thru Atlanta several times a year. I prefer Saturdays and Sundays because there is less traffic. During the week there is no good tiime to go thru Atlanta.

I have found area like LA it is best to be going the opposite of the commuters. Example going into the center of LA in the Afternoon and going out of LA in the morning. I do not like weekends. If you have a tire problem and need to buy a new one no one is open or too busy to help you. Same if you break down.

That doesn't work in the Chicago area because of the large number of "reverse commuters".

I only travel between 8:30am and 4:30pm to avoid rush hour traffic. I also try to stop on Thursdays and stay over the weekend and travel out again on Monday.
That would be my ideal trave times.

And time of day? Obviously the best time to travel is after the evening commute traffic all night until just before the morning commute traffic. For those like me that can't stay awake and drive after dark ...

When your schedule forces you to choose between dealing with commute traffic at the start of your travel or at the end, which do you normally choose?

We prefer to travel Monday - Thursday (especially when planning to get to a campground tat is first-come, first-served) and try to leave after rush-hour (9am-ish) and arrive before 4pm.

If we are on the wrong side of the city on a weekday, we will leave by 5 am. If possible we get thru a city early, say 1 pm and stop on the far side for the night. We don't like traveling in the night hours, but are early risers.

We only travel in the day light hours. After being an over the road driver, big ciies do not bother me to drive through, at any time. I just sit back and relax and let the flow of traffic dictate my speed.
