I have "G" rated tires on my 5th wheel. On the sidewall of the tires there is a statement that the tires can be regooved. Has anyone ever done that to get more miles out of the tires? If so, where would you take the tires to have it done. I'm not a tire expert. Just asking a question of those that might be.

You might try a truck tire recapping service. Usually they can regroove your tires.

In Farm country you might be able to find a tire shop that stills has the necessary tools and some one that knows what they are doing.
Probably at a large semi-truck tire facility also.

Fact is....that RV tire will age out long before you could benefit from having it regrooved.

If it's the Goodyear G614's, it's really not necessary. Won't do the tires on a 5er much good to re-groove them.."IF" they were that far worn, they need to be replaced anyway...this per Goodyear when tire is used on TT or 5er...When they get to the 5 yr of age condition, they need to be replaced anyway, even if they appear to have very little wear...I wouldn't waste your time or money on re-grooving them..

2 X that It is OK on farm tires that only get very little road use. I know that they do it on some road tires. I would never have it done on my fifth wheel are my cars or trucks.

NC Hauler, can you give us the Goodyear authority who states G614's should be replaced automatically at 5 years if they are used on a TT pr 5er? Have never seen nor heard of that.

b pilot,
Better check with your Department of Motor Vehicles. Regrooved tires are not legal in some states. California is one of them.

Thanks for all the input. I was curious because the note said that the tires could be regrooved. I have one tire that is wearing more on the outside than the other three. I suspect that the axle is slightly out of align.

I also have the G614's. Although it is possible (my local Goodyear Truck Tire Dealer does it) they do not, under any circumstances, recommend it for a trailer tire. I asked them the same question when I bought the tires.

Can't really tell you by any authority that Goodyear, or any tire for that matter that is mounted on a TT or 5er should be replaced every 5 yrs....I was told by a Michelin Service rep as well as a Goodyear Tire Manufacturing Engineer that 5 yrs. was about the life span of a trailer tire due to the amount of time the tire sets, as opposed to it being driven every day like one's daily driver. Has to do with some of the compounds used in the tire manufacturing process. I guess best way you could find out about this would be to call either MIchelin or Goodyear and ask them, I'd call their customer service where you could actually speak with someone that would know about this type of question...My tires looked brand new on my 5er,...but, as they say, "looks can be deceiving"...Again, I would go straight to the manufacturer and ask them so there is nothing lost in the translation....

As far as never hearing about 5er or TT tires being changed out about every 5 years, do a search in here, it has been discussed quite a few times....I get the impression it's more of a safety measure than anything else, but when the tires aren't spinning,(being driven on) that often, and sets as much as "most" TT & 5er's do, it tends to cause the tires to , for want of a better word, deteriorate faster than normal, thus the reason "5 yrs" seems to have become the time most would look to replace the tires on their 5er or TT
