I have a 2008 Chev HHR that Im getting ready to tow. Ive read alot of old posts about Ready Brake, but nothing new, and it sounds like it would work for me,but the installation under hood could be too tight.
Anyone out there use a Ready Brake in a HHR? Any drawbacks? Problems?Does it perform as advertised? Thanks for any extra info youd like to give. Also you might comment on the Ready Brute Tow Bar if you have one, pros and cons. Thanks CONCORD

I've been really happy with my Ready Brake towbar and braking system used to toad my '10 Mercury Mariner. I installed it all myself 2 years back, and remember that threading the brake cable under and thru is awkward but then works out great.

I can't respond to your HHR difficulty, but would suggest you call Tow Bars Unlimited and talk to them about it. When I got mine from them they were most helpful. I've got to believe they can advise you on the HHR. Good Luck.

We like our Ready Brute Elite towbar very much. It's well built and the integrated brake system works fine.

Our Ready Brake system is intalled in a Honda Fit, which has a very tight engine compartment. We had a local RV dealership do the install.

I installed the complete Ready Brake package on a 09 Chev Cobalt. I used the Demco baseplate. The braking components under the hood were very straight forward, as the work was under the engine compartment. Did the install myself with my BIL. The province I live in uses a front license plate, so I went directly through the plate with the install. I also purchased the complete package from Tow Bars Unlimited. Very good company to deal with. Did the install in the spring of 2010. Have towed the car across North America and back. Gone through the Rockies and the system works as advertised.

Took me longer to run the wiring on the Cobalt, for the rear tail lights. It was a harder job.

I'm considering this system and associated installation for towing our 2010 Jeep Wrangler 4 door. Anyone with a wrangler that has done this install? Also wondering if the firewall behind my brake pedal is single or double wall thickness?

I did it. The wall was esay to penetrate - not sure if double or simgle wall - I do have more engine noise. Entire install was about 1 hr.

What year Wrangler? According to the instructions, you drill a pin hole and if double wall, then you move over to another location. If you didn't have any problem attaching the cable assembly at the preferred location, then I would assume single wall at that point.
Any comments on it's functionality and assume you're satisfied with it?
The 4 door Wrangler is fairly heavy and I don't have a coach such as yours to drag it around with, but from what I've seen going up and down the road, I should be fine.

I did my 08 Wrangler. The wall might be single but there is an aluminum heat shield on the outside.

I have the Readybrake and I tow a 2006 Jeep Liberty behind a 27' Class C. The only problem I have encountered is a considerable amount of side to side swaying of the Liberty when going down the road. I had a guy in a truck pull up beside me while going down the interstate and roll down his window and yell that the Liberty was moving 6 feet side to side (I know he was exaggerating, but it did scare me). When I got home I checked and found the fit was fairly loose between the tow bar and the receiver end on the Readybrake. There also was some looseness on the other end where the Readybrake fits into the motorhome receiver. Since you are adding about 13 inches of length to the combination of the Readybrake and the towbar and two loose fits, you end up with a good bit of play at the Liberty connection. I am going to try installing one (or two) of the Roadmaster "Quiet Hitch" brackets to see if it tightens up the play. I hate to have to do this as it adds another complication to installing the towbar/Readybrake every time.
