Hello all. We just got our first new to us camper and already have an issue. I set up the camper at the house and wanted to run the heat etc... I turned on the propane and immediately smelled gas. I've narrowed it to one bottle. Upon further inspection I found the rubber gasket inside the bottle where the connection goes in to be crushed real bad and leaking. I swapped bottles to other side and same thing on that same bottle.
Question.... Is this gasket replaceable or should I exchange bottles somewhere??
2nd question.... WHERE do I go to swap a 30lb bottle ? Everywhere I go either fills 20lb bottles or complete swap....
I have two full 20lb grill bottles I think I will use in the mean time...
Thanks

Sounds like you need to go to an RV dealer who sells propane. Not all of them do, nor do all of them have the wherewithal/interest in attempting to fix such a situation. As for filling a 30 pounder, if they can fill (and not just exchange) a 20, they can fill a 30. Or a 40. Or a 60. Or a 100, for that matter. They are all the same. If they SAY they can't fill anything but a 20, you just have not found the right dealer, yet.
As for exchange, I've never heard of an exchange place that would do 30s. Only 20s.
I don't know if that problem is fixable, but I do know that there are replacement valve kits designed originally to replace the old-style valve assemblies. They didn't always work, sometimes pulling out the old valve left the tank damaged and unusable. I tried it with one, once, to no avail.
Best of luck. And obviously a leaker tank is not very useful, although you could, I suppose, turn it into a steel drum. Gal played just such a drum in church this morning. Very interesting instrument.

X2 on that suggestion. You should see all of the stuff that the local propane plant can do.

Ok. Thank you. Down the road from my house here is a place called Suburban Propane. Maybe they can help. I just always thought of them as a "household" propane delivery place. They have the big underground new tanks outside and the big delivery trucks.
Maybe they can get me to the right place if they can't help.

Any reputable LP dealer can take care of that problem. It is possible the previous owner swapped the gaskets with a type not designed for LP gas and they have failed. The LP dealer will be more than happy to fill your 30 lb cylinders

X3. My hubby works for such a place. They do that sort of thing fairly often.

As above, go to a propane delaer.
The RV park, or a gas station that sells propane, has a clerk with the 15 minutes of training on how to fill bottles.
A propane dealer has the people that can recognize any problems with the tank or fittings, and how to fix them.

Would it matter that the tank in question, is of course, full?? In case they should need to change the valve?
Thanks everyone...

He said changing the valves and the gasket is a bigger ordeal, and you might want to get different bottles. You don't know why it happened?
