My "C" drive is up to 96% filled up but I still have over 65 Gb free on my "D" drive. Is there a way to change the disk partition to take space from D and add it onto C instead?
I'm pretty much computer illiterate so would need some pretty detailed directions if this can be done. Can anyone help?

What version of Windows are you using?
A quicker (easier) fix might be to move your page file from the C drive to the D drive. Depending on how much memory you have installed on your computer that can clear up a gig or two of space.
If you wanted to do that, directions for Windows XP can be found here: Clicky

You can download a free copy of Partition Magic at Partition Magic download. When I worked for the federal government we used the paid version and it worked well.

Go to Menu System Restore, remove most of the Restore Points, except one or two latest.

I don't think you can do it and not have to reformat the entire drive.. Meaning, you will have to backup your data and re-install everything once it's done..
Not usually the job to be undertaken if you have not done it before.
I think there are programs out there that say they can repartition without formatting, but I've never used one, so no personal experience. Anytime I've needed to repartition, I used the old DOS command "FDISK" and started over.. Now, I simply partition for a single C: drive from the start..
Might check out the "Geeks" at Best Buy or Office Depot and say see what they charge to do that..
Going along the lines of what Helmsey said, moving the PAGE FILE will usually net you some free space.
So will going thru and cleaning up the drive. Depending on the OS, you can run the included "Disk Cleanup" wizard to free up some space.
Big space hogs can be the "TEMP" folders you see under Windows. You might check you Internet Options to see how much space you are reserving for Temporary Internet Files.
If you have a bunch of files in your "My Documents" folder, you can always move them over the the D: drive. Sure, you'll have to go there to get to them, but you can create a shortcut.
You do want to be careful when deleting or moving files, unless you know for sure they are not 'system' files...
Good luck!
Mitch

partition magic will do the job
first step tell it to shrink 'D' 20gb
second step is to increase 'C' 20gb
But I have to agree it would be safer to just remove some restore points and other not needed temp data
If you have filled the drive with lots of pictures or video or work files
I would recommend buying and external drive and copying all those files to the external drive
and then deleting as much as possible from drive C
this gives you a safe backup I case of computer failure and makes room on the 'C' pwrtition with out doing a repartition operation
Options, always have options, and the journey goes much smoother

There might not be a need to reallocate space on the drives. Can you move the contents of "My Documents" to D drive. This puts your data and programs on a separate drive, making a backup and restore of your primary drive smaller and quicker.

Partition Magic or GParted will do the job, but I suggest defragging both drives first for the best results.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 allow you to shrink and grow partitions without needing third party software. Windows XP won't.

A 500 gig external drive doesn't cost much. Could you move some files to an external drive to free up space on your internal drive?
