One of the things I disliked about the couple trips we've taken through Oregon is that the state does not allow you to pump your own gas. I really don't want anyone I don't know even touching one of my vehicles, let alone getting near it with a gas pump. Once while I stood next to my car while it was being fueled by one of Oregon's "gas station technicians", the pump clicked off and the "technician" proceeded to click the pump again to overfill the tank as many ill-advisedly do. I asked that he not do that. He proceeded to do it again and spilled gas down the side of the car.

Get your *^#$*$^ hands off my car!!!!

That goes for any "RV technician" who thinks he can do an unsolicited inspection of my rig when I've stopped for gas or a bite to eat. You're not "repairing" anything of mine, and I'll take my fuel dollars down the road, thank you.

Sorry if that seems a bit unfriendly.

Sorry this has nothing to do with gettin ripped off by the scammers, but thought it needed to be replied to.
Jwrighttabq... I've been cruisin Oregon & Northwest for the past 7 summers and have not had a problem with fuel attendants. I have always fueled my truck myself (Diesel). I don't know if you drive a gasser or diesel, but you might want to check out the laws as they pertain to gas pumping in Oregon & maybe in New Jersey if your ever up that way. Also came across this article in the Portland Tribune ... so if you drive a diesel might be of interest to you.

Diesel drives past ban on self-serve gas

sorry I tried to make it a clicky but guess I'm not smart enough to get r dun ....

Just thought I'd interject my .08 cents worth (inflation)..

No but have you ever tried to find a radiator cap for a 68 Corvair?

I have. They keep them on the shelf next to 68 VW caps.

X 2 for me. Unless you went out of your way their is a Flying J on the north side of the interstate and one on the south side as well as a Loves across from the Flying J on the south side. Are you saying that Flying J or Loves did this to you?????

GadgetGuy,
I believe that the FJ on the north side is now an independent, probably due to the P/FJ merger. What I can't remember is if there is any other facility near the one on the north.

In any case, I too would like to hear more details since I pass that way at least 4 times per year.

For those of you asking about tire/repair shops around the truck stops in Wells, NV.........

The old Flying J on the north side (now an independent Sinclair) AKA "The Four Way Casino" does have a tire shop. It is waaaaay to east. Basically on the NE corner of the property. Those guys would either have to be loitering around the fuel islands looking for RV's or come running.......from a loooooong distance. There is another tire shop across the street from the truck wash as well. Not sure if there is a gas station adjacent to that one that RV's would use.

Happened to me back in the early 70's before I80 was built west of SLC. We stopped in Ely for gas and attendant checked under hood and said my alt. was going bad. showed me the metal dust also. it was a 69 Chevelle. Had them put it in garage and take it off and they called to get a replacement and it was gonna take two days to get one. told them to put it back together and we were on our way. Brother worked at a Shell station in Reno and he checked it out plus tuned it at new elevation and 300HP 4sp never ran so good.

There's also some really great people out there also. Was out at the week long Moab UT easter jeep safari and on the last day I broke the right front spring hanger on the jeep. I took the winch cable and wrapped around the frame and spring and tighten it up so I could drive off the trail and back to the campground. It was late in the day so I figured I get a new next day. Well since the event was over everyone that had been open 24/7 was closed up tight. The thought of towing the jeep 2511 miles like that was not good. Went to the convience store I was getiing my gas at and explained my problem, he gets on the phone ,a few mins later a girl shows up and he says he'll be wright back. Then he shows up with a truck with a welder on the back. We take off the hanger he welds it , put back on. I was extremely grateful, asked how much for the job? His answer " nothing just have a safe trip back to Ma." I sent my son across the street and got him a $50 gift card for steak house.

Not personally, but my piston return springs started acting up on a long trip once.
