We are in Sedona heading north and west to Willians and Las Vegas. Looks like we need to double back south on 179 to I 17 north because 89A north from Sedona looks pretty torturous for a 36ft class A towing a Porsche on the ground. Any recommendations?

I-17 north to I-40 and then west. 89A north from sedona would be a reallt, really slow go for you.

We came down 89A from Flagstaff with a 42' and 2-45' all towing. Some of the corners where tight but we had no problems. Just have to take your time.

Living here in the Verde Valley, I would DEFINITELY go up I-17 to 40 West. Drive 89A in your toad, not the MH.

We've done that road several times. We've done it with Class As, Class Cs and motor cycles. Yes, it's a bit windy, yes in a few spots it's a "little" tight, yes in a few spots it's a little steep but, all of it is doable with a 36' unit. There are people that do it all the time. No it's not the most easily traveled section of road for a rig like yours but, it is the shortest route to your destination of Williams. There are a few pull-out spots for you to allow built up traffic behind you to slip on by.

If you look down at the other end, towards Gerome and Prescott Valley, it's seriously longer and has a considerable amount more "twisties" in it. You are, just about in the middle of that route. You will have about 15 minutes of twisting and climbing and then it smooths out towards 17. If I may ask, where are you staying in Williams? We really like Kaibab Lake State Park, but, it's most likely closed at this time of year.

One has suggested that you drive the toad and not pull it up that route. That's a great plan. It will make it a lot easier on the climb. We've done that in many climbs and routes. We did it on the route of 550 out of Ouray CO, up to the summit where we hooked up. We occasionally do it on the Montezuma Grade out of Borrego to Ranchita CA and hook up there. It' simple and easy that way. And it's a relief on the coach.

You'll have no problems running that short climb out of Sedona.

Thanks for your reply. With a Porsche Carerra conv. it is no big deal to tow and a much bigger pain to connect and reconnect. We are not really into state parks..too far off the main road, often no hookups and often not pet friendly. We like the ammenities of a full service RV park since we are oding this for more than a year.

Avoid 89A north of Sedona UNLESS you want to add your paint to the existing layers on the overhanging rock ledges. Yes, the long way is the best way for any RV.

I agree that 179 back to I-17 would be best. 89A is doable but you would be crawling and would have to take up both lanes in many of the hairpin turns, something that oncoming traffic...ah..will have little appreciation for. You will make far better time taking 179 back to the 17 and it will not be nervewracking like 89A.
