We have a 211 receiver from Dish which is hook up with a RG59 coax cable going from the dish through the RV’S cable hook up in the bay and everythring is working fine. I am wanting to buy a Dish Tailgater which I understands comes with a RG6 coax cable, will it work going through the hook up in the bay are do I have to go directly from the back of the receiver to the Tailgater?
Also I am told that if I get a external hard drive that his a external power supply that I will be able to record programs, my question is will I be able to watch one program and record another?
Thanks for any and all comments

No. The ViP211K has only one receiver and therefore can only supply one signal at a time.

X2 on that. Also, you should be able to hook up just as you do now. The Tailgater is basically just the antenna, or dish. More sophisticated, but still serves to collect the signal, and it doesn't really care how you get the signal to the receiver, as long as the connections are good.

I am considering a Tailgater and would be interest in whether the RG59 would provide enough power to power the Tailgater.

"RG-6/U is a common type of coaxial cable used in a wide variety of residential and commercial applications. The term "RG-6" itself is quite generic and refers to a wide variety of cable designs, which differ from one another in shielding characteristics, center conductor composition, and dielectric type. "RG" was originally a unit indicator ("Radio Guide") for bulk radio frequency (RF) cable in the U.S. military's Joint Electronics Type Designation System. The suffix "/U" means “for general utility use.” The number was assigned sequentially. The "RG" unit indicator is no longer part of the JETDS system (MIL-STD-196E) and cable sold today under the RG-6 label does not necessarily meet military specifications. In practice, the term "RG-6" is generally used to refer to coaxial cables with an 18 AWG center conductor and 75 ohm characteristic impedance. RG-6 is insulated with an aluminum foil sheath. Even though RG-59 looks similar to RG-6, RG-59 is insulated with a copper foil sheath."
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RG-6.

So the only difference is the quality of the ground/shielding material. Better control for the impedance stability so they claim. I really wonder considering the short run in a rv installation.

Just to be clear. When you ask "will I be able to watch one program and record another" the answer is yes if you watch a program that was previously recorded. We never watch live TV, that way we can skip through the commercials.

You'll have no problem with the hookup through the park/cable connection, but as other's have said, the 211 has but one tuner. You can't watch one show and record another.

As I understand you should be able to watch a show you have recorded and at the same time record a show that is on then. You do have a one time fee to do this. Been looking into it myself.

You should know that RG59 will add significant if not huge signal strength loss at satellite frequencies. It should not be used above TV broadcast frequencies. Satellite frequencies are much, much higher.

RG6 has much lower signal attenuation (loss) at satellite frequencies.
