In our area, with the high rates you have to pay for HD, you don't get the local stations in HD. That is ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX. That makes up 75% of our watching. I called them, and they had no plans to do anything about it. I have to pay for an antenna and hook it up to get the HD locally. Of course I get the cooking shows and some others for my extra money. It is tempting to just go with the antenna.

You'll have HD locals this year.

I have become a believer. Got an HD DVR and record all the programs I want to watch then fast forward through the commercials. I always thought this would be too much trouble but turned out to be a no brainer.

I just called those idiots the other day, and they told me that there was no plan for local HD in my area. So I promptly ordered an antenna for $129 to take care of the problem. This even makes me madder. I have a little over a year left on my contract. Just going local is sounding better to me all the time. Thanks for the information though. They should hire you, nobody there knows anything.

Once again our rates increased by $4.00 !!! We were just hit 6 months ago!! How frustrating in that I don't know where to go to complain!! For those who want to suggest ..... NO ... I don't want to give up my subscription.
The lady said contact Direct complaint department .... HA! Anyone know who to complain to?

It looks like they added some HD Extra Pack for $4.99/month. I never even signed up for that and have been charged for two months. I called to find out about it and they said that I signed up for a free trial in October and never cancelled. Funny, because I never sign up for their "free" trials because I never remember to cancel them! I told her that and she took off the charges.

They also did raise the DVR Monthly service by $1 so now that's $8.

Since I auto-pay by credit card, I never see a bill, or even an email confirmation of the charges, unlike other companies. At least Verizon sends me an email, with the charge to my credit card, so if something doesn't look right, I can take care of it right away.

Call them, complain about the new higher rate and ask them for the phone number for DISH NETWORK.

Watch (or listen) to them soil themelves cutting you a new deal.

Oh, and if they don't play....

Basic Dish 19.95 plus 5.00 "Access fee" since your RV reciever can't fphoen home plus so much a DNS channel (Same as Direc there)

Better yet: ATSC Over the air broadcast.. I put a 35 dollar upgrade on my Batwing and in my case (old TV's) a couple of at the time 10 buck converters in the coach and.... 30 channels, more TV than I can watch and 2 of 'em carry a lot of really good shows. My monthly bill $0.00

I also auto-pay DTV by credit card, but get an e-mail statement each month. Auto-pay and statement delivery preference are two different things. Check your profile, if you have on-line access, or give them a call and confirm you want to receive either a paper statement or an e-mail statement. You can also go on-line and view past statements up to 24 months back.

If you want to be an expert on the subject, go to this forum http://www.dbstalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12
and bring up the thread titled "New Directv Prices". It's currently 33 pages long. The summary is if you're under contract there's not much you can do. If you're out of contract you can call up and keep saying "cancel" to the voice recognition system until you get transferred to an agent in the Retention department. Once there you can take 2 approaches: 1) Ask if there's anything they can do to lower your bill, or 2) Ask to cancel the service (but you do need to be prepared to be cancelled if you go this route, but also have the chance of getting the best deal). Either way, you get the best results by being polite and non-confrontational.

Here's one of the reasons Direct, Dish and the cable companies keep raising their rates every year.

Dish May Boot ESPN

From that article: "Programmers are now feeling very confident that the money they pay in exorbitant rights fees will come directly from the pockets of cable and satellite customers.”

This is one of the reasons I dropped DirecTV a few months ago after being a subscriber for more than 14 years. I have zero interest in watching sports, and don't think I tuned into ESPN once in those 14 years. I had it set so it wouldn't even show in my guide. I got tired of paying more than $50 a year for ESPN which I never watched. It wasn't the money, it was the principle.

I now get more than enough TV off antenna, and occasionally buying a program off Amazon Direct, and I am saving over $1000 a year.
