We have a large group here on this forum who are avid solar power enthusiasts (me included). But I'm curious to know how many here own and regularly use a solar oven? If you own one did you make it or did you buy it commercially?

This is a great addition to your survival items. I've been wanting one for several years now but funds have been kind of tight. I've also played with the idea of making one, but never got around to doing that. This unit from Sun Oven looks like a nicely made one and reasonably priced. Thanks for the recommendation.

Right now we are seldom in a campground long enough during the day to use one. I think a solar oven would be a good addition for those that are though. I remember as kids my DB built one out of cardboard and aluminum foil so a light fold-up version would fit the TC lifestyle. Here is a website with plans.

Last July I was roaming around NE California and came across a "solar cookoff" festival in Taylorsville. I went because of the music, not the cooking, though. Lots of solar ovens there, as you see in this picture. It's an annual event, I think, in case you want to check it out.

Interesting article, Mike! Thanks.
Great photo of the cook-out, too.
A solar oven is something we will be looking at closely.
Cheers,

Yup a bunch of California yuppies cooking with solar ovens. I would quickly go the opposite direction. See that big collection of people. Glad they are there and I am elsewhere. I travel partly to simplify my life, not to look for gadgets to deal with.
Just my opinion. Your mileage might vary.
