I was wondering if anyone else did it in a Suburban. Ours was a 1982 3/4 ton 4x4 350 V8, 4 spd. manual. My folks don't have it any longer though after all their kids left home they didn't need seating for 8. The lady at the DMV was skeptical when I showed up with it but I passed on the first try.
My brother and I have since pulled the engine and rebuilt it, stripping out alot of the early problematic smog equipment as the vehicle is in a smog exempt area and the early GM stuff had a bad habit of super heating the number 8 cylinder.
She had the 4 speed automatic transmission, and nowadays she get's used as a work vehicle and back up driver when I'm doing a project on my truck or car.

Not me - both worth telling:
A friend's son took his driving test for his first DL (at 16) with dad's
(stock) Model T touring about 10 years ago at a very busy So.CA DMV office.
It made the papers..
He passed..

Let's see...
That would have been about 1958.
The family car then was a 1941 Buick Special, straight 8 with factory dual carbs and three speed tranny.
I passed on the first try.
I have no idea what the score was.

I used the "Family Car" a 1974 Chevrolet Caprice Classic. That was about the only time I got to drive it until years later when it "trickled down" to being my car. Most of the time after I passed the test (on the first try) I drove moms car. A 1964 Chevy Biscayne. The Biscayne was made the same year I was born.

In Montana, IF you have your Learner's Permit, you can drive to the test site IF accompanied by a licensed driver. The "Test Area" is the streets of the town where the test site is located.

1954 Hillman Minx.
1400 cc flathead about 40 hp. 0-60 in about 35 seconds. 4 speed on the column with a pattern backward to North American cars. 1st was forward and up. 2nd forward and down. 3rd back and up. 4th back and down. Reverse was 2nd with the knob on the shift lever pulled out.
At the time, if you took you test on an automatic, your license was restricted to automatics only.
