At the time, I was living in Canada, where you could use your own vehicle for the test.
I brought my own Volkswagen 1500 fastback....I think it was a 1969.
When the agent asked me who drove me to the DMV, I told him I did !!! He didn't know what to say, and I passed the test without any problem.
Actually, I used my car for about a month before the exam.

1961 Ford full size four door sedan. Had the inline 223 cube six, 3 on the tree, standard steering, standard brakes...parallel parking this beast gave me more of a workout than a trip to the gym.
As another had mentioned, some jurisdictions had two different licenses...one for automatics, one for standards.
I got the standard license...as that was the license required for a motorcycle which I had.

1938 Ford Pickup. Had a flat just after the start of the test. The tester let me change the tire and they gave me another attempt to pass.
BTW: I was only 14 years old, at that time if you were a farm kid you could get a judge to give you a waiver to license at 14.

1400 cc flathead about 40 hp. 0-60 in about 35 seconds. 4 speed on the column with a pattern backward to North American cars. 1st was forward and up. 2nd forward and down. 3rd back and up. 4th back and down. Reverse was 2nd with the knob on the shift lever pulled out.
At the time, if you took you test on an automatic, your license was restricted to automatics only.
OH MY GOD.
Then I went to England to visit my grandfather, he had a later model that he let me drive. It was really interesting driving in the other seat with the shift lever on the left side off the column. Not to mention the other side of the road.

Wow, I never thought this thread would approach 150 replies - very nice comments and super interesting stories behind the vehicles that were driven for their driver test....I enjoy every comment !
The two types of vehicles that stuck in my mind as no one ever mentioned having on a driver test was : A Corvair and a Corvette...and there were RV.Net members that finally covered those rigs as taking upon their driver test - Amazing !
I forgot to mention the "driver ed" vehicle that I driven in high school (that you had to have to obtain a certificate eligible for a driver license at 16) was operating a 1977 Ford Fairmont four door, which the driver ed teacher had to cancel the rest of the day after I first drove it, due to the second driver which was a girl that totalled the fender of the car as the teacher kept yelling LOOK LOOK LOOK LOOK while the teacher's handbrake wouldn't work as the girl smacked the car into a palm tree, while everyone else got mad because they didnt get their driving turn....
On another forum when I posted this question years ago, one of the members was a Ford Dealer that was family runned for over 50 years, as he stated at his high school they had two driver ed cars...
One was a Ford vehicle, and the other one was a Chevy vehicle... and the driver ed teacher made him (the Ford Dealer's kid) drive the Chevy driver ed car....as the Chevy Dealer's kid in the same driver ed class was forced to drive the Ford driver ed car !
The DMV office upon my issued driver test was the Hollywood California location, as the DMV instructor was really kewl and let me slide on engaging the parking brake as I informed her it was vacuum acuated on release and might not be a good idea as it 'sometimes works'... my most nervous task was instructed to parallel park . . . at the LAPD Wilcox Station no less while everyone was zooming around during lunch hour, as the instructor was real impressed with the 68 Thunderbird on how stylish and luxurious it is and told me wow you can really feel the power in this thing.
I hope the posts and replies still keep coming in on this topic !
