I know this post is about a month old but I am new so I thought I would respond. This tent is a good concept and is good except for one flaw that I believe Coleman is working on. Since the tent does not have a rain fly the rain just runs down the sides. The windows zip down from the top so you cannot unzip the windows at all if you are in your tent during rain to get a little breeze in case it is muggy and humid outside. Just a thought to consider.

I bought one of these Coleman tents a few months ago and it's still sitting in the carton. I liked what I saw and I liked the reviews I saw. I plan on setting it up in my yard after my landscapers do a spring cleaning. I'd love to see how it fares in wetter conditions.

Does anyone have any experience with it while raining? Should I waterproof it first?

I just bought the 8 person model instant tent. I set it up in the yard to familiarize myself with it before taking it out next week. Also, based upon reviews, I purchased a rainfly. I did see that in some stores a rainfly is now included with the tent.

It went up as easily as promised. 1 minute to get it up and a few more minutes to stake it down. I assume adding the fly will add a few minutes. Took it down, rolled it up and into the bag in about 5 minutes. Much less time than it used to set up/pack up the old pop-up.

I will let you all know how the tent performs after my trip June 1st.

Not a Coleman, but our very first tent bought as a couple, was a SST, going on 20 years ago. Still have it, use it as a back up.

Is a "pop up". Has a center hub, poles lock and collapse then all folds into itself. The SST stands for Sixty Second Tent. Ours of typical 4 person size, meaning 2 people and gear.

Loved it from day one. Started out using it weekend camping on Tx Gulf Coast beaches. It withstood what ever the Gulf could throw at us. Used it pretty much every other weekend for 2 years straight. Only minor leaks in the biggest downpours. Always used sand stakes, it got blown from side to side, never tore.

Remember one night in particular where the side by our feet ended up being blown down in about a foot from our faces! Never buckled.

Best bargain we ever found.

if the Coleman is anywhere close in performance ... you'll be thrilled. Our current tent is a Coleman Weathermaster. It's been in steady use the last 10+ years, all in the mountains of PA. Hasn't let us down yet. And it's been thru it's fair share of summer storms too.

Just stake the tent down tight, and tight. As in< tight as a drum and tight to the dirt ... and add some guy lines of bad storms are brewing ... and you'll be fine. Most tents fail due to operator error.

Turbo Tent is what I saw at Costco.
High quality. High price.

Unless you're buying stoves or lanterns, or the hot water heater, avoid their tents. They are custom made bottom-barrel imports that lack features, wind and rain integrity, and quality fabrics. Quality means cost, features mean patent royalties, and integrity means more than thin poles and dated designs. If you need a cheap tent, go with Coleman. The Weathermaster is a good example - too few poles of thin diameter supporting too much square footage of material...great if a 4-man design but ridiculous for it's floor area. If you plan on several trips each year including exposure to winds, snow, and driving rain and need comfort, head to Ebay or Amazon and get a quality tent from makers like Sierra Designs, Marmot, Big Agnes, Mountain HardWear, Northface, REI or EMS. Otherwise, just head to WalMart and save your money. Last week we just retired a high-end Sierra Designs BaseCamp 4 model whose floor was weeping moisture due to delamination issue not repairable with a spray polyurethane treatment. It has been in constant use and abuse...a 1987 model.

Funny how JJBuck above and I use Coleman and have not had the issues TP swears they have everytime they are mentioned. I've been using Coleman for 10 years now. Here in the south we don't camp in the snow heck we don't get much snow. We do get some pretty mean spring, summer and fall thunderstorms that my Colemans have been through. I won't say they are the best but fit many situations. I guess if you don't spend a fortune on a tent then it's cheap.... Just my opinon as those are his. Mine from my experiences and his from his. Thats what makes a forum what it is. A place for information and sharing what works.

Frank, I've had several "cheap" tents from those brands and still own one of low-tier quality that is used as a "loaner". Here in San Diego County we enjoy beach, valley, mountain and desert camping with all but the desert being available year-round. Add low humidity and few bugs and you see why our gear takes a beating - we're out using it about every couple of months. After over 40 years of camping I've discovered that quality gear is less expensive as you replace it less often, and the lifetime guarantees mean free repairs for issues like zippers or broken poles, which happen with any tent. Most folks only get out once or twice each year so they should be buying $100 tents at WalMart as they're not going to experience 50+mph winds or driving rain anyway. Glad to hear you get so much out of so little, if you're not using it it might as well be the cheapest you can get.

I use mine from March through November.By then it's too cool for my air mattress and my interest turns to hunting. I have a camper for that. Usually one to two weekends a month. Add a few long weekends plus a couple 5 day stays. I'd say it gets used quite frequently.
