Hello,
I have tried two e-mails and one phone call to a contact person at a Florida State Park, about camp ground hosting for either next year, or the following year. As of this posting, I have not had either a return phone call, E mail, or read receipt.
Anyone else have problems with getting replies from them? The specific park in question is Rainbow Springs.

It has been our experience also.
Go to this link: Florida Sate Parks
You can apply, statewide. If any parks are interested, they will call you. You never know, you may find a park that you like better than Rainbow Springs.
March is the best time to apply for next winter.

We had the same experience several years ago. I don't even think they acknowledged our application. This kind of non-encouragement is one of several reasons we are thinking of forgetting about volunteer hosting.

I was told it is best to just call the park you are interested in directly. The Florida State Parks are pretty well stocked full of folks wanting to work camp. I tried calling several for this winter and was told they were full. Of course there are always cancellations and the such, so doesn't hurt to try.

I applied thru this website last year and got several responses. They did take several weeks before we heard and had already filled our time slots before they responded. I guess you just have to be patient and apply early if you want these spots. Every state has their own system with unique hoops to jump thru to get a spot. Not bad with Florida, just different.

We had no problem getting a camp hosting position in a Florida State Park. We followed the information on the http://www.floridastateparks.org/getinvolved/volunteer.cfm filled out the form on http://www.floridastateparks.org/getinvolved/howtoapply.cfm sent a copy to the VC in Tallahassee and a copy to ATTN VC at the parks we were interested in hosting at. Two of the three replied, one our fiver was too large for, the second we spent 4 months at and enjoyed our stay, the fellow camp hosts and the staff.

In my world, calling out a specific employer by name and saying they don't respond to e-mails and phone calls regarding employment is "Slamming" Since the internet and bulk e-mailing oof resumes has become the norm, it is not unusual for an employer to recieve 1000s of resumes. To respond to each is an impractical waste of the employer's resources. It may not be polite, it may not be popular with the applicants, but it is the way the world is today.

That may well be true- but really, how much time is consumed and trouble is it to write a short note saying the job is filled, delete the addresses of those selected for positions, and reply to the others. It isn't like sending rejection letters by snail mail.
