i agree cooking oil would be better than vasaline. thats just what came to mind first 'cause we carry a "trial" size to lube seals.

Heat the hose either with hot water or a dryer/heat gun use needle nose plyers inside hose pull handles apart streaching hose at diffrent spots slip on and clamp

Still got your propane tanks hooked up? Use the stove to heat some water to boiling. This will heat your hose up quite quickly. Use a towel and gloves to protect your hands. Good luck!
