I think I would worry about the AGM battery warranty over the trailer warranty.

My 5th has been plugged in 99.5% of the time since we got it in Feb. of '05. Oem converter, oem battery still good and never had a problem. Yes it it now 7 years old and my truck oem batteries are now 8 years old. My life goes on.I don't worry and will do what is necessary when the time comes. JMHO.

In wish I could hook mine up and go but my converter won't go into boost which would kill my batteries (undercharge).

Hi mlts22,

I'd look at AGM--but not from Optima. Due to their spiral design they don't pack as many amp-hours per unit of volume as either lifeline or universal products.

I want to make all of you laugh. I have a 7 yr old previous electic wheelchair AGM in my Motothome. Not a problem in 5 yrs; except for cleaning the posts every so often. Gonna run it until its useless.

I use a couple of these 100 amp hour Mobility 12V AGM deep cycle batteries in our RV. "Mobility" use means such things as use in wheelchairs and electric vehicles:

http://www.interstatebatteries.com/cs_eS........nfo/specs/MKT0030-01_DCM0100L_09_CLS.pdf

We're in our 6th year on these AGM batteries. They do just fine on the stock 13.8V converter because AGM batteries charge faster than wet cell batteries on all voltages and at all temperatures. Of course they would charge faster from a charger with a boost range, but they don't need a boost range to fully charge - just more time - but still faster than wet cell batteries would whether on boost voltages or bulk voltages.

The posts above mentioning several different AGM battery brands being available are right on. There are many AGM batteries to choose from for RV use and not necessarily of any lesser quality than Lifeline AGM batteries.

Don't pick on me, pick on the OP.
When i was learning my electronics, everything was tubes. Transistors were just coming out and IC chips were never even heard of.
One of our experiments was to make a battery and they said to use an old mason jar.
Then i joined the Air Force and they sent me to Keesler to learn computers. What were they teaching us, the Q7 system, it is all tubes and relays, none of the new stuff(transisters).

Some thoughts: Optima batteries have only about 60 percent of the capacity of a LIfeline or MK/Deka or other AGM for the same footproint, You need only look at 'em to figure out why (All that wasted space)

THERE IS NO ADVANTAGE TO AGM if you are mounting "This side up". Regular Maintenance free has all the advantages of AGM save that they must be mounted THIS SIDE UP, they also cost less and last longer (years). However it is harder to find a true DEEP CYCLE maintenance free.

Flooded wet cells give you the best bang for your buck. And the common GC-2 six volt (you use 2 in series to make a 12 volt battery, 230 amp hours) is a Deep Cycle.

Finally: Put a new converter at the TOP of your list. It will pay for itself next year when you do not replace the batteries. I can not stress enough the importance of a proper converter.

My Progressive Dynamics 9100 + Wizard boils my Interstate U-2200's down (not dry) in about a year's time..

So ... what does one do about the fact that AGM batteries have lower internal resistance than wet cell batteries?

The battery charging engineering equations that take this internal resistance into account show a clear advantage for this resistance being as low as possible. The theoretical "ideal voltage source (i.e. battery)" has zero internal resistance.

Also, my AGM batteries show zero current acceptance on the ammeter at any applied charge voltage once they are fully charged. This makes it real handy if you use an ammeter to absolutely tell when they're full without having to wait to read terminal voltage after waiting for surface charge bleed-off or alternatively, buying and installing the (expensive) total battery capacity meters or having to use a hydrometer.
