DISH/Tailgater users out there: When you set up at an RV park away from home, do you get the local channels at your destination or those from your home city? Just curious about switching from our manual tripod dish to a carryout model, and if it also makes send to switch to DISH. We are currently using DirecTV SD. I don't particularly care about HD at this point, as we don't plan on watching TV THAT much. :-)

If you just traveleing a littleways (not sure of exact mileage) and using a receiver from your house, you will get the channels that you normally get(your home local channels). However if you travel say 250 mi you won't get anything for local channels, you will get everything else.
At least that's been my experience.

That has been my experience as well using DirectTV. Sounds like it is the same with DISH then....

If we are going to be in one locale for awhile, we will call DISH and change our service (not our billing address). That will give you access to locals channels at your current location. You have to request that change by call the DISH RV division at 888-309-0370; otherwise, normal customer service will not understand what you are doing.

A tailgater will work the same as a Tripod dish, see the same satellites in the same location, just easier to setup.

This number is no longer the RV Division, it is the equipment recovery department.
Dish no longer has a dedicated RV Department. The best number to use is 888-686-2388 if you already have an account. It seems the C/S personnel at this number are a bit better trained than their average C/S person.

That's the number I always call, whether to suspend service for a few months or change service locations. Sometimes it goes smooth and other times the change never gets done or the representative has no idea what I trying to say so I have to call back again.

Anyone have a good number for Directv for this service? I called their CS number a couple years ago to make a change once, and like was stated, they usually don't know what you're talking about. Took lots of explanation but finally succeeded.

Thanks, everyone. So, i just have some thinking to do. Can get a used Vcube relatively cheap that will work with DirecTV SD (only), which is what I have. May try this for awhile, and see how it goes. I'm just looking for easier setup at this point.
