It might help if we knew what expectations you have of the area. Rye Patch is a reservoir about 100 miles east of Reno on the Humboldt River.

Just looking for a nice place to stop overnight and Rye Patch looked like it might fit the bill.

It will probably work for an overnighter. However, I would press on to Reno.

If coming from the west, from Quincy, then I would probably stay in Winnemucca. There is not much at Rye patch but for just an overnighter it should work.

Nothing there no HU's and not much shade it's a state park with water located in the park it would be dry camping for the night. For another 45 mins. you could be in Winnemucca with a number of FH campgrounds and places to eat. Have fun
Rye Patch is great for an overnight; a lot cheaper than any of the dumpy RV parks in Winnemucca, quiet, safe, and easy access from I-80.
Thanks NevadaJim and JT (and others) for the advice. I think Rye Patch will be a good stopover. Having no HUs is not a problem (it looks like they have everything else) and we'll have plenty to eat.
Thanks again, Clint

Rye Patch is out in the middle of the desert. I remember going there in the 70's with my friend's Uncle and catching a ton of crappie there. You could do the same.
