When I was 30 years old in 1970 gasoline was $.27 a gallon... and I had a big Bonnaville Convertable....
I had a 3/4 ton Chev Longhorn and a big truck camper.
In a matter of 3 or 4 weeks fuel prices jumped to $1.00/gallon. The whole country was in a panic... they stations would only seel us 5 gallons.... the long lines were around the block.
Dick Greggory came to WVSU togive a talk... he was known as a commedian... but he posed some very pointed questions.
One was; Why were we upset at the price of gasoline... the oil had been hauled half way around the world... and was selling for a dollar a gallon... but no one was upset about the price of milk... it too was $1.00/gallon... and we could see the cows from the campus.

I put 7.1 callons in our prius... $25... all I could squeeze into the 11 gallon tank. i wanted to leave it full for the house sitter... She won't drive it much but she'll be able to get more than 500 miles without adding anymore.
54.6 MPG... and its cute too.

I'm just messing with you on the 22 or 25 dollars to fill the tank. I work in construction and am spending about $125.00 per week on fuel.
I'm going to try to go to the coast this weekend for a couple days and spend an extra $200.00 or so on fuel.

News Flash!
Kelli, heading home from work, reporting that regular gas at the same gas station in the original post has overnight jumped to 4.15 for regular and a second station is at 4.19 down the road. There is also a Safeway that has 4.09 for regular but for how long.

We are off to Alaska this summer and have just decided that we cannot let the price of diesel ruin our plans. Today diesel prices are $1.29 per litre.

Hope you have a great trip Paul. If you take the Alaskan Ferry one or both ways, you may be able to hookup with member "TINY" I think his name was who works for the ALCAN HWY Ferry System. Get some pointers and hot tips from him.
We will not be letting prices change our plans. We went through this a few pages ago about expense and I figure it's about a penny a mile for each 10 pennies the price goes up at 10 MPG. Pennies add up but camping is still about the cheapest travel fun you can have.
