Hi Garysol,
You have a lot of good opinions here.
Mine is different.
Go with the Curt. It is a very heavy duty adjustable hitch. Will unhitch at angle angle. You can also tow any other trailer (capture plate). I also like the king pin latching better.
Good luck and happy camping. I have owned both Gary.
Mark

Thanks Mark. Your opinion does mean a lot and I appreciate it. If you saw my post above you see that I may need to stay with the Curt after all. I feel a bit better now about that now.

I suggest you go back and read all the previous posts. Nothing you have stated is a REAL showstopper.

I did note you said you liked it, but you raised a list of issues. Reference to the previous posts was intended to help you understand that NOTHING you raised is a real problem.
Sorry if you took offense.

One negative that was mentioned was, 'dealer can't move it around.' I have a gooseneck adapter and I think it is actually a plus. On two occasions I've taken my trailer in and the dealer told me to drop it and then they would work on it until they realize they have no way of moving it. I get top notch service while I wait. I hear others complain they take theirs in and it is to be done in a day or two and still waiting two weeks later. Mine always leaves the dealership when I leave. I've never had anything stolen from the trailer either as they never know when I'm standing on the other side of the glass window watching. The longest wait was approx 4hours when the refrigerator was replaced.

Yes, I would recommend you upgrade to the 18K. While you'll likely not load your trailer to max GVWR load, I wouldn't knowingly "under hitch" the trailer. Besides when you move up to a larger rig, you'll have a hitch that will handle it.

My 18K weighs about 300 pounds. And I prefer to remove it by hand. Just pull all the pins. Lift one side off the rails, by tipping it on it's side. Then tipping it up on end. The remove the pins and rails from the truck bed. Then "Walk" the hitch to the back of the bed, and flop it down gently onto my homemade table on wheels, that is the same height as the truck bed. Roll it into the garage. It's really not that heavy if you lift only one side at a time. I'm a weak old man.

When I don't have the table available...such as at a C/G, I just lift it out by leaving it hooked to the pinbox and raising the front elevators. The only strength that uses is one finger pushing a button.

Even if the dealer wants a $500-600 difference, I would go for it.

Just for reference, Super Glide now comes in a 15K version for industry standard rails at a great price!

I just bought the Super Glide 15K part #2700 for $785.00 shipped!
This is the site I purchased from, best price I could find:
http://radauto.com/shop/5th-wheel-hitches/pullrite-superglide-15k/prod_917.html

The price of this hitch is maybe $200.00 more than a good slider well worth the money.

I would contact Pullrite, tell them your weight concerns and see what they say. I have the 15K and its great. Just a lite oil coating on the rails now. Not graphite.

Spoke to PullRite this morning and they recommended no less then the 18k hitch. I will awate a call back from the dealer and see what kind of deal they can do for me..........
I have no problem with the 20k Curt so I need to simply decide how much the convenience of not having to go through the "hassle" of using the manual slider is worth. My concern is that I will get lax and start not to use the manual slider and that one time when I think "eh, it will be fine" WHAMO!!!!!!!!

I have to say so far General RV has been more than fair and good to deal with on this. They are going to get me the 18k for $250 more than the 15k. Total charge is $500 more than the Curt. Small price to pay for a big piece of mind. Glad thats done!

That $500 is money well spent! As I said before, peace of mind is priceless!
