I need some info. as to a good surge protector. We have been lucky with our 2 previous TT's never had an elec. problem. Since we just purchased a new TT, we are interested in a protector. Have read info as to the progressive being good. Do any of you have or know anything about the SSP-30 model, from progressive? We'll be interested in your recommendations.

What you need is a good EMS from Progressive Industries, it provides surge protection as well as protection from low or high voltage and mis-wired pedestals.

Besides the above a good multi-function surge protector that will protect your entire RV will cost ~ $250 for a 30A and ~ $350 for a 50A RV...

The protable one I have is from Progressive...

SSP-30 is a good 'basic' unit. It will check Reverse Polarity, Open Neutral and Open Ground and will trip power on surge, under voltage & over voltage.

It will not 'auto reset' after tripping due to power surge or over/under voltage conditions so you will have to manually reset it......not a big deal.
It doesn't have a time delay......electrical system is unstable when first restored so having a time delay feature is good especially when the unit auto resets.......again not a big deal, by the time you go out and reset it when tripped power should be stable enough otherwise it will trip again
It will not trip as fast as the more expensive units.....but we're talking nanosecs. But at least it will trip relatively fast.

Yes the higher priced units do a lot, have auto features, react faster and cost more.........so is $200 (+) higher price worth it to you.
I have the higher priced auto featured style........but we FT go to different (unknown) places.

I have another question. Model# EMS-PT30C is what I have located. Is this the one you are recommending? Now 4 different sites listed. Progressive Industries-$309.00. Tweety's rv supplies-$299.32. Dyer RV Parts-$263.93. and Rv Supplies-$328.05. Which would be the most reliable site. I suppose the direct wired would be best but we have decided on the portable. Thanks for your help.

Go for the cheapest price.

Also consider the 30A Surge Guard.

These are both for 30A RV systems. You have a 30A and not 50A system, right?

What if you're not around to reset it? Let's say you left your TV for several hours . . . no AC for pets, maybe fridge is off, etc.

Using a cheap unit like this is like getting car insurance on just the back seats.

I'll opt for a higher price unit.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know where to start, so I just tossed out that model. I do remember some discussion a while back as to one that was around $300.00. We do want a good one. Info. has been a big help. Thanks again.
