Hi everyone...If you had to start from Erie, PA on june 8th and you had 2weeks to travel where would you go? There is me & my wife, my 15 year old daughter and my 4 year old son all in a 2006 Forest River Charleston 400QS . We would prefer to go out west and are looking for all the stops in-between. My brother will be jointing us (2005 Fleetwood Discovery) either the first part or the last 2 weeks (he's going for a month) What are the MUST SEE stops?
Thanks in advance for your input!!
Joe

Sorry to disappoint you but I would travel east for the allowed two weeks except for a couple of days at Cedar Point in Ohio which has the greatest collection of wild rides in existence.
If you look at a map the West is VAST and travel takes a long time compared with the east.
For more information do a Google search for `_____ tourism' and put the city/state in the blank to see what they suggest in their area.
You can ride the Erie Canal from Lockport, NY in a narrated boat.

I have to agree. Do you mean west as in the western United States? The last time I was back east I was amazed at how close together places are. If you head west you will spend most of your vacation driving out here and back. It is a long ways to get out here and places are very far apart. If I were you I would head south along the coast, north up into New England or west to the Great Lakes. Wherever you go, I hope you have a great trip.

Call WI west and do a Great Lakes loop is one serious suggestion based on our 31 day 8000 mile trip west of MS River and we are only 40 miles east of MS River.
From St. Louis there was mostly nothing until nearing the CA coast line compared to east of MS River. I should have said nothing much but DUST.

I thought about my earlier reply and remembered that over 25 years ago I did the great western road trip and never went back. I should be the last person to discourage some one else from doing it. If you have the money and can stand 12-16 hours behind the wheel, you could drive straight through to Denver on I80. Not much to see on the way out. You will have about a week out here to see all of the major attractions along the front range. Rocky Mountain NP, Denver, Mount Evans, Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak, Royal Gorge, maybe even Great Sand Dunes. Just search the forum for the past couple of months, there have been a lot of posts on this area. Take a more southerly route back, doing a route 66 tour back to Chicago starting in Amarillo would be a lot of fun. The arch in St. Louis is something your children will always remember. When you get back home you will need another vacation to recover from your vacation but your wife and kids will have many great memories. I guess that they are what it's all about, aren't they?
Happy travels;

I agree with the fast travel possibility but it is demanding but doable if in a MH.
We left KY at 2 PM on Fri. First night slept (stopped 2AM) at a WM in NE. Second night sleep in Badlands vistors parking lot. Third night slept in Cody WY. 4th/5th nights slept in YS NP. 6th night slept Bear Lake UT rest stop on top, 7th slept in Antelope State park Great Salt lake, 8th-11th nights slept in cousin's driveway in NV.
While this is not a pace I suggest it was still fun and the days were full of stops. Six hours of sleep and I am awake so for 12-18 hours a day we were moving be it sight seeing or on the road.
If you move for about six hours a day and 18 hours of down time you can cover about a 33% as much ground in the same time.
Do not do your road trip on the terms of strangers.

If you like Lobster as much as I do, then go to Maine - Mount Desert Island, south to Thurston's Lobster Pound in Tremont.
BTW, we stayed at Pirate's Cove in Southwest Harbor.
That guy was about 2.5 lbs.
