From volunteertv.com:

TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The owner of the Town Square Cafe in downtown Tellico Plains said a tornado ripped its way right down Scott Street early Friday afternoon.

According to the Monroe County EMA, five people were hurt and it has received damage reports from Tellico Plains, including the city hall.

People along Scott Street have been evacuated to the junior high school.

Randy Martin, who owns the cafe, said an old warehouse next to the TDS Telecom building was leveled and several homes were severely damaged. He added that a bunch of "very mature" trees, which he estimated to be around 150 years old.

There are also reports that KOA campground has major damage.

So sorry to hear this--we were in Tellico Plains in October, stayed at the KOA, and went downtown--lots of nice folks there. I hope they all made it through with no injuries.

Please keep us posted.

Terrible news. We love that campground, the little town and that entire region. Our thoughts are with the people there.

Just googled that KOA and thier is a pop up message on the site regarding thier damage.

From thier site... wrote:

KOA Tellico Plains Kampground was hit by a tornado March 2nd, 2012. We will be assessing the damage in the next week. Early reports indicate we will need major clean up and rebuilding. We were blessed as we were still closed for the season and no one was there. More information to come.

I emailed the Tellico Plains KOA--we had stayed there in October and really enjoyed the park and the town and the beautiful Cherohala Skyway.

I had a reply from Don Kirby, the manager. He said the campground is "totally gone", but they plan to rebuild as soon as possible.

Thank you LindaAnn. I thought we would run over there this afternoon, but we are still cleaning up here. No structural damage, just washed out roads and part of our driveway slid into the garage! Everything is beaten down by the hail. We sold our Class B two weeks ago and our TT is in south Alabama so we did not have anything valuable out in the open. We are counting our blessings and praying for those less fortunate. lizzie

Sorry about damages you had, but glad you and family are safe. We are in the area of last year's tornadoes in Smithville, MS and Tuscaloosa, AL. so we know about the devastation they can cause.

We live 15 minutes from the Tellico Plains KOA. I knew the town was hit hard, but hadn't heard about the campground being destroyed until this morning. Horrible news for the little town. Schools are closed today as people are still cleaning up what's left of the downtown. As of last night, they still weren't letting people into town unless you lived there. Looting going on. We're trying to get information as to what people need. There have been food pantries, meals, & clothing closets opened up for those in need.
