Will be using a Equalizer hitch with my '02 Tahoe, 5.3L, rated at 7200 lbs. How should I expect the towing experience to be with a new Roo 233S?

Kind of hard to say without knowing SOMETHING other than the name of the trailer but I assume it's somewhere around 23 feet and a hybrid so hard to imagine it would tax the truck much. Post some more information and you may bet better opinions. Good luck / Skip

are you buying the "Equal-i-zer" WDH or just a regular WDH that people often refer to as an equalizing hitch?

your Tahoe will do fine, IF it has the factory tow package and if you get a good WDH, like the real Equal-i-zer or Reese Dual-Cam.
i tow my Roo 23SS, a similar sized hybrid, with my Avalanche, which the same GM900 chassis as the Tahoe, just longer.
i use an Equal-i-zer WDH and Prodigy BC and it all works great.

have you also bought a brake controller?

If you have a brake controller installed, and your WD set up properly, you may forget that it is behind you.

You have plenty of towing capacity for the trailer, but it's almost the weight of the truck.

You ain't gonna forget it's back there as the Chevy will often be straining to pull it. The trailer will probably weigh 5500 pounds once in your family for a couple of trips.

The later trucks with 3.73 axles and 6-speed transmissions are nicer off the line and their overdrive gears usually keep the rpms down to a reasonable level.

well, i tow my 23SS with nearly the same vechicle, as the OP.

i tow through the Sierras, Cascades and Siskiyous and i really don't notice it back there. i have plenty of power and no problems maintaining 60mph up most grades.

the 23SS and the OP's 233S are nearly identical in specs. the 233S does have a much heavier tongue weight but is shorter in length.

as long as the OP has good WDH with integrated sway control, they should be just fine.
it's a good combo.

Really don't notice your Roo 23SS back there? Really? That big marshmallow in the rear view mirror isn't a clue? Engine running 3000 RPM plus?

Just curious what RPM the engine is running at 60 mph up the Sierras. I'd really notice if my Expedition bogged down to 60 on any of the hills over here.

Thank you all for the input. We're really liking the Roo 233S, one of the only hybrids with three real mattresses (heated, to boot) and I really can't justify, nor afford upgrading my TV to pull a 23' hybrid across the plains of Nebraska. It looks like the Tahoe will manage it safely. I will take the advice of getting a real Equal-i-zer WDH hitch w/sway control.

I think it will pull it, but you will know it's there. The trailer weighs in at 5764 gvwr and the Tahoe is 275 hp @ 5200rpm, 290 lb ft@ 4,000 with a 3.42 axle with a 4 speed automatic.

My Espy runs a little higher in the hp 300@ 5000rpm but the kicker is the torque at 365 @3750 rpm and a 3.73 axle. My trailer is 5345 #.

Your going to be needing to keep your engine pretty well wound up to get the torque and with the 3.42 axle you will pull in 3rd with I would think a lot of downshifts into 2nd. These little engines were made to run at high rpms, but with this combination, you won't win any races in the hills. I think you'll pretty well be pushing it for what it's worth.

If it doesn't have a tow package make sure you get a trans cooler.

This particular Tahoe has the 5.3 L, 285hp@5200 rpm and 325 lb ft @4000 rpm. It does have the 3.73 axle and a tranny oil cooler.
