We stay at River Beach in Milford on our way to Lancaster County from MA. With your travel time I would run 84 to 691E (avoids Hartford) to 91N and try Brattleboro and/or Pine Valley. It is probably just under 4 hours to Brattleboro, another hour max to Pine Valley. They are not far of the highway.
Does anyone know of a campground in VT (anyplace in the State) where one can get a full hookup site lakeside and where there is an enclosed off leash dog park in the campground or very close to it?
One suggestion is North Beach in Burlington. Run by the Burlington Parks and Rec and have full hookups. Do allow pets but not sure if they have an off leash area there but there are parks in Burlington that have off leash areas.

The Waterfront off leash park is very close to North Beach. In fact it is one of the parking areas for non-campers to access the park.
