I don't remember specifics, unfortunately, but I read more than one report of overheating in the brief time I was looking into the F150/EB. During my one test drive, the EB sputtered and shook on first takeoff, and blew some smoke. That didn't exactly impress me, needless to say.

The 1500HD is the standard 3/4 ton non HD. Not a 1/2 ton with heavy suspension. No longer made, but it's possible that they may bring it back. I sure do like mine, it has been an excellent truck.

Being an F150 owner myself I read 3 forums and have hardley heard any heating probs. There was a guy last year it seems that had some problem climbing in CA I think. The biggest issues are a shuddering problem and the 6sp tranny. Ford has a flash for the tranny and the shuddering problem seems to be accross the board with 5.0 and Eco's. It comes on around 55mph. The tranny does some strange things with most not serious. Just goofy shifting. There are TSB's for the tranny. Eco's have been out a year now in the F150 and not really anything wrong that I can tell. Looks more like growing pains than anything.

One other thing and this is from the guys that own them, according to the manual it says something about running premium gas when hauling heavy loads in high temp conditions. May be part of the overheating problem.

Again, I can't find a single post in any forum regarding the overheating "issue" that wasn't started by the same person -Shelby 500- or something. He posted in a number of ford forum looking for answers and in one there was a "me too" poster with little details. The only thing that 10 pages of Google searching for "ecoboost overheating issue" turned up were threads started by Shelby 500 and funny enough quite few references to RV.net posts that, like this one, contain statements like " not until Ford fixes the overheating issues". Maybe there is a problem, but they are not referenced by any mainstream websites I can find. I encourage anyone to show me that this is more than just a rumor perpetuated through the webvine...I have no problem being corrected, I've wrong on more than one occasion.lol

I haven't seen enough overheating posts to have any concern either. As an owner, I'm not laying awake worrying about overheating. It's the transmission pump that scares me.

I guess we'll see how the laws of physics play out on a 1/2 ton truck with a V-6 towing 10-11k over a long period of time. I am not saying it can't be done but I do have reservations about the setup for many reasons that I am sure have all been addressed here at some time. I really think that somewhere <100K miles there will be issues. If it works,,, I am in.

Reminds me of this blog post about the Anatomy of a Fake Quotation. It's amazing how easy it is manufacture information on the interent. All it takes is for one person to state a "fact," and then it become legit for everyone else to reference it. They aren't reporting incorrectly, that "fact" did indeed appear. But the "fact" may or may not be true.

I feel like right now, there's a lot of "facts" in these discussions, but very little actual, scientific data. So it is damn near impossible to know what is going on.

For me, I read everything on here with a grain of salt. Trust, but verify. Anything said by anyone on these forums, whether they are "koolaid laden" or not, cannot be trusted unless the supporting documentation is provided and that documentation is reasonably unimpeachable.

RAM already has....

"Finally, Ram is catering to buyers who need to tow or haul with the new Ram 1500 Tradesman Heavy Duty -- an uprated version of the existing Ram 1500 Tradesman. It is rated for a payload of up to 3100 pounds, a tow rating of 11,500 pounds, and a gross combined weight rating of 17,500 pounds -- all figures which top other half-ton pickups.

The Tradesman comes only with rear-wheel drive and an eight-foot bed. Power comes from a Heavy Duty version of the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with 383 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. Upgrades to help the truck cope with the higher weight ratings include a strengthened frame, tougher wheel hubs, larger brakes, and a standard Class IV hitch with trailer wiring connectors. The Tradesmen HD goes on sale in spring 2012."

That is good news. Did the RAM change it's rear coil suspension to leaf springs? 3000lbs in the bed will make the RAM aim at the moon!

Did they de-tune the Hemi from 390hp?

In any case, my friend's RAM 1500 is towing fine with goodyear rear suspension air bags. The 2009 Hemi + 5spd tranny does a great job.

Good question.....

I want to know if the rear coils on the newer Rams are performing well too?
