Even with a septic tank you should still have clean outs. A Macerator will pump uphill 50 to 75 feet.

We do have a septic clean-out but it's too far and I don't want to deal with it for the little use the black water system gets.

Hi,
We used a porta-potti for a number of years in a home-made B minus and it worked ok. The only problem is that it's a bit of a hassel to remove the top portion of the unit, particularly if it's full of water, then unlatch the bottom portion and lug it to the disposal site. The larger models that have enough volume for infrequent emptying are fairly heavy, and if you are having to wrestle it out of a tight space it is difficult. As far as anchoring the unit, we used a simple strap with buckle that ran under a cleat on the floor and through the carrying handle on the back of the base. Worked like a charm.

Why go through the drill of removing the black tank & related plumbing? Wouldn't it be better to just remove the toilet, and blank off the entrance to the black tank?

I suppose if you're planning to completely wearout your B, it doesn't matter. But if you plan to sell it at some point, not having the black tank will severely devalue the ability to resell it.

At least it would if I were in the market. First mention of no black tank, and I'd move on. Of course, I may be the distinct minority on this.

It's a 1985. My guess is it won't affect the value at all...

In effect you will no longer have a self contained motor home and will make it very hard to sell in the future. Pull the toilet if you want and cover the drain to the black tank, but leave the black tank attached to the RV.

Just a thought, but you could get a macerator pump and keep your same tank. I dump at home using this method and dump into a cleanout.

Unfortunately We have a septic system and can't get near it with the B.

I have been told of RVer's that have pumped 100 feet and also up hill with a macerator. I have had one for five years and just use an old garden hose to a clean-out, but others just use a toilet.

Why not just leave everything that you have, use the toilet, and dump into one of these -

It has to be a lot easier to carry into a home toilet to dump than sloshing into the house with the porta-potty tank. And a lot cheaper than going to the expense of ripping apart your RV and buying the porta-potty.

1775, Thanks! That looks like a great alternative to replacing the system.

My previous camper van had a porta potty and I needed to dump it almost daily. As I got older I realized that I may not be able to tote it to a handy toilet someplace. And I noticed that some campground or picnic toilets have signs prohibiting porta potty dumping.

Now I have a Roadtrek with a black tank. Except that we only pee into the system and poop into plastic bags (I learned that from an Okie Toilet). This means that we have more capacity in the black tank for stuff. I installed a macerator and can pump my black tank right into the bushes by the house when at home. No smell, no tp bits, and I flush with grey right after.
