There should be plenty of room in the campgrounds at Cachuma Lake. There is no swimming allowed in the lake, but great fishing, boating and hiking.

San Simeon State Park between San Simeon and Cambria - choose the rear most campground for most privacy.
There's a dump there in the park.
Spring Break next week - beware.

Hi Dak!

This is Gemini. We like Lake Casitas near Ojai, Flying Flags in Buellton, and Morro Dunes RV Park in Morro Bay.

Be careful tomorrow if you're in the mountains, snow is in the forecast.

GGGRRR!! Yeah, I'm coming back up. Oh well, we need the winter! I've been at Morro Dunes. Parking lot, but nice and easy and right on the boardwalk... I'll also check into Casitas, but I think at this point I'm leaning towards Cachuma..

Good night all! and thanks again!

Ya Cal Poly U spring break is last week of March, local district schools first 2 weeks of April. We did that once Margaret worked at poly, thought we'd sneak a trip to Big Sur before district schools got out only to find Monteray district schools same schedule as CPU-it was packed.
Wouldnt think Cachuma that busy yet (dont know S/B schedule). We were by there last month and it was virtually empty-weekday.

Dak,

Montana De Oro State Park is just south on Morro Bay and meets your requirements of quiet. No dump station and just water near your site but very quiet. Near the ocean in a canyon setting, lots of wildlife, hiking and solitude. Should not be very busy. Truck camper is easy, no trailers or large RV's.
Good luck

If you do stay at Montana de Oro SP, there is a dump station at the Morro Bay State Park campground. It's about 10 miles away, but on your route to San Simeon. I believe that you could dump for free by showing them your receipt from Montana de Oro.

BTW, MDO is not on the bay, but on the coast south of Morro Bay. Beautiful, isolated area. One way in and one way out, through the small town of Los Osos.

Within an hour each way of Santa Barbara there are three additional state parks to consider - Carpinteria State Beach, El Capitan State Beach, and Refugio State Beach, all close to the 101. There are additionally two private campgrounds "El Capitan Canyon" and "Ocean Mesa RV and Campground" located on the north side of 101 at El Capitan state beach.
